We are looking for a 3D Character Artist for a contract position.

In this role, you will work closely with the character and concept teams to execute high-quality assets, adhering to the high visual standards and vision set by the Art Director and Art Lead for character design and organic modeling. You will have strong knowledge of all aspects of character creation and be a hardworking, self-motivated team player that brings future heroes to life. You will be proficient in character creation and character systems for AAA third-person action games. You should have a solid sense of vision and passion for creating high-quality assets that delight our customers.

What you will do:

  • Work closely with the Art Director, Associate Art Director, and Character Lead to execute the game's artistic vision.
  • Must have a deep understanding of the development of the character's visual style/pipeline for outfit, weapon, and creature to deliver cutting-edge assets.
  • Contribute to the development of the character visual style/pipeline for outfits, weapons, and creatures to deliver cutting-edge assets.
  • Able to follow directions and react to critiques in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the concept, character, animation, and tech art teams.
  • Contribute to the references, concepts, and art direction while also having the initiative to take the work further.
  • Work closely with the team and external partners to ensure that quality is consistent and cohesive.
  • Increase the team's skills through mentorship and artistic techniques.

Requirements

Your Role: As a Senior 3D Character Artist, you'll bring characters to life, ensuring they resonate with our audience and enhance the gameplay experience. You'll work closely with a team of passionate developers, utilizing your extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine, 3D modeling software, and asset creation pipelines to create stunning, memorable characters.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Unreal Engine, Maya, Modo, MudBox, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter, or equivalent software to create high-quality 3D characters.
  • Apply a solid understanding of next-generation asset creation pipelines, tools, and software to streamline character development.
  • Demonstrate a strong grasp of form, shape, structure, and silhouette in relation to both modeling and gameplay.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of anatomy and character movement to facilitate rigging and animation processes.
  • Work proficiently with PBR shaders, normal maps, specular maps, and diffuse maps to achieve the optimal visual quality within the game engine’s technical limitations.
  • Exhibit a keen eye for light, shade, color, and detail in texture map creation.
  • Collaborate effectively with the rigging, animation, and design teams to ensure a seamless asset handoff.
  • Communicate pipeline needs clearly and contribute to the development or enhancement of technologies to elevate character team quality and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate an ability to learn new tools and techniques quickly.
  • Accurately estimate task completion times and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Mentor junior team members, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Uphold the company’s leadership principles and exceed functional/technical expectations for the role.

Qualifications:

  • A profound passion for making and playing games.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine and one or more 3D modeling tools such as Maya, Modo, MudBox, ZBrush, or Marvelous Designer.
  • Solid knowledge of next-gen asset creation pipelines and software.
  • A deep understanding of form, anatomy, and motion as they relate to character design and functionality within games.
  • Expertise in working with PBR shaders and texture maps.
  • A demonstrated ability to create assets that meet the needs of rigging, animation, and game design.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical needs and improvements.
  • A commitment to learning, mentorship, and leadership within a team setting.
