Software/System Architect

We have an opening for a full-time, permanent Software/System Architect to join our talented, dynamic team in support of a large Federal Government customer.   

As a Software/System Architect, you will play a critical role in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by providing robust cybersecurity and privacy protections for Veterans, VA information, VA information systems and infrastructure.

Duties

As a Software/System Architect, in this role, a typical day will include: 

•  Coordinate with Program Team members to identify system architecture requirements.
• Identify strategies for addressing requirements.
• Conduct analysis of requirements against fiscal, schedule, and performance issues.
• Take program requirements and create an architecture vision in high volume and high availability networks and systems.
• Creating and conveying to team members the architectural vision for a program or project.
• Responsible for dictating design choices to software developers, including but not limited to platforms, coding and technical levels.
• Ensuring that NIST RMF (Risk Management Framework) is appropriately applied and maintained for all aspects of the environment.
• Establishing and enforcing standards and practices.
• Oversee the development team and manage the full life cycle of the software development process.
• Oversees network traffic analyzer deployment and configuration activities.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required
• 10 years of relevant experience at a large Government agency similar in size/scope
• 10 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
• Must have NIST RMF experience
• Must have extensive experience in the coordination of program and project leaders to identify requirements for system architecture
• Must have extensive software development experience and thorough knowledge of a variety of programming languages and logic
• Familiarity with Apache open-source product stack such as Elastic, NiFi, etc.
• Experiencing with supervising vendor contractors or team members and ensuring their work is completed as required
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Self-starter that can work under general direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
