Position Summary:
Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Finance serves on the Executive Leadership Team (“ELT”), leads all finance and accounting activities, and plays a key role in driving the company’s financial performance.
RESULTS EXPECTED
- Reporting. Issue accurate and detailed consolidated monthly financial packages, including in-depth analysis of financial statements and KPI’s, within 20 days after month end. Present internal monthly financial report to ELT and other senior team members, highlighting areas for collaboration to improve company performance.
- Budgeting / Forecasting. Lead annual budgeting process, providing insights and recommendations to optimize financial performance. Maintain monthly P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow forecast and Risks/Opportunities analysis.
- Decision support, proactive & ad hoc analyses. Create reports and analyses to identify profit enhancing opportunities and proactively work with the ELT to maximize margins through a combination of new initiatives and ongoing improvements in pricing, COGS and Opex.
- Working capital and cash management. Optimize working capital efficiency and cash flow through effective inventory management and accounts receivable/payable processes.
- Audit/tax. Oversee annual audit and tax work performed by CPAs. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards. Monitor and improve internal controls in collaboration with our CPA firm.
- Banking relationships. Manage relationships with lenders, providing timely communication and reporting. Ensure company meets all debt obligations and financial covenants. Proactively communicate any actions required to ensure compliance.
- Lead team. Lead the finance and accounting team, effectively interacting with all other departments and building a team that is capable of scaling to $200MM+ revenue and $20MM+ EBITDA. Represent finance and accounting department in quarterly Board meetings.
- Lead the company thru a transaction process in the future. Manage data room, acquirors due diligence processes including interfacing with large company representatives and advisors (lawyers, bankers, etc).
Requirements
COMPETENCIES NEEDED
- Significant finance and accounting expertise, resulting from years of hands-on experience in FP&A at a large CPG company and ideally trained in accounting at a large CPA firm. Other financial backgrounds such as private equity, investment banking or credit work at a large bank will also be considered.
- Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work closely, collaboratively and strategically with CEO and ELT. Strong conviction and the ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally. Preferred having worked in a smaller, growing company (independent or ideally PE/VC-backed).
- Familiarity and comfort with financial concepts relevant to the CPG industry, including distributor and retailer relationships, business models and structures, and trade spend/ math.
- Proven ability to work with complex, disparate data sources to create comprehensive reporting packages.
- Strong experience with and capabilities in financial planning & analysis.
