Full Job Description

This is a temporary position working at Box Canyon Dam in Ione, WA.

·         Assists workers of the various skilled classifications within the P.U.D. by performing incidental individual tasks as directed by the journeyman to whom assigned.  This generally relates to preparatory tasks such as pick up, delivery and assembly at the worksite of tools, materials and supplies; performance of incidental individual tasks such as erecting, staging, and installing bracing and temporary railing; cleaning, sanding and painting; using common hand and/or pneumatic power wrenches and cutters in removing nuts, bolts and other fasteners or connections as directed for disassembly of uncomplicated units or parts; cleaning parts or assemblies by washing, steam cleaning, or by removal of rust, scale, and sediment by scraping, wire brushing, sand blasting, etc., placing wood or metal blocking or screw or hydraulic jacks under assemblies for or upon removal for disassembly and repair or transporting; serves as a groundman for a crane operator, makes hook(c)ups of a fixed or standardized nature for light loads, and may serve as signal worker; polices work areas; performs rough carpentry; and performs all other work as required which does not affect the quality of the end product in terms of tolerance or workmanship standards, codes, safety, etc.

 ·         Operates small portable and fixed equipment such as electric and pneumatic tuggers equipped with automatic braking for handling scaffolding along the face of the powerhouse or dam, for pulling trash racks, and for moving transformers and the like form one place to another for installation removal.  Operates electric and gas pumps in the evacuation of sumps and seepage waters or to provide auxiliary water pressure.

 ·         Operates air tools and equipment such as air compressors, jackhammers, pavement breakers and chipping hammers in removal of concrete for repair or for minor improvements.  May be required to perform concrete work in the mixing, placing and rough finishing process for patching or replacement purposes utilizing small mixers, and common hand and power tools such as concrete buggies, wheelbarrows, tampers, wood and steel trowels, pneumatic vibrators or grinders, etc.

 ·         Operates boats (including milfoil machinery) and/or barges for movement or repair of trash booms, placement of buoys and signs, removal of debris from tailbay, removal of aquatic plants (e.g., milfoil) from designated sites, maintenance of spillway and reservoir areas, for repair of safety nets, for inspection trips, etc.  May serve as deck hand or any or all of the above.

 ·         Clears roads, culverts, bridges, trash racks and ditches of debris.  Puts in cold or hot patches in asphaltic pavement.  Clears roads, walk areas, and operational areas of snow and ice.  Keeps grounds of all P.U.D.

 facilities designated in good order by seeding, fertilizing, mowing and edging lawns and grass areas using hand and power-operated tools and equipment.  May prepare and care for flower beds.

·         Maintains P.U.D. buildings and appurtenant structures in good repair by performing minor plumbing, lock repair and installation, installation and maintenance of entry facilities, maintenance of ceiling and floor tiles and coverings, repair on wood and concrete stairways, etc.

·         In the performance of job assignments, is required to operate trucks with power lifts and winches, small tractors for mowing grass, towing, snow removal or backhoes for debris removal and ditching.  Proper classes of licenses are required in all cases according to Washington State Law. Current Class A CDL is required.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must have a valid driver's license with a Class A CDL endorsement.

·                  Ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 ·                  Sufficient physical stamina to stand, walk, climb, crawl, lift/carry, engage in automobile travel and safely perform all essential functions of this position.

 ·                  Ability to work, walk and drive effectively under adverse climate conditions, including hot/cold temperatures, rain, snow, humidity, etc.

 ·                  Ability to work safely and comfortably at heights and in underground facilities.   Must also be able to work near on and over bodies of water (e.g. lakes, rivers, spillways, etc.)

 ·                  Ability to traverse over rough, uneven terrain.  Occasional use of snowshoes, snow machines and other equipment may be necessary to reach remote, rural locations.

 ·                  Ability to wear, when required, appropriate company provided clothing and breathing apparatus to work in confined spaces.

 ·                  Ability to operate controls requiring grasping and fine manipulation.

 ·                  Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous conditions or in situations when sustained attention and focus is critical to the safe and effective performance of the job.

 ·                  Corrected vision must be sufficient to meet the essential functions of this position.

Benefits

This is a temporary position and provides only the benefits required by state and federal law: paid sick leave, workers compensation.

This is a union position with an hourly wage of $37.03.
