Job Description

Title: Social Media and Communications Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Report to: Board of Directors and specifically to Board President

Salary & Benefits: $13,632 annually for .25 FTE employment, with paid holidays, vacation and sick/safe leave, and flexible scheduling

This is a .25 FTE position with the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice (RCF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit peace and justice organization based in Olympia, Washington. The foundation encourages and supports grassroots efforts in pursuit of human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice, which we view as prerequisites for world peace. Current emphasis is on the Middle East and human rights in Palestine.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Social Media and Communications Coordinator works with other staff, the Board of Directors, designated committees, partner organizations, and program constituents to develop and carry out the work of the Rachel Corrie Foundation through social media outreach and other communications. The post oversees RCF’s social media presence by curating, administering, expanding, and monitoring content across digital platforms, with the goal of spreading awareness and interest in RCF’s work and in related local and global events. The position works with other personnel to advance all internal and external communications, strategizing, planning, developing, delivering, and monitoring communications and content.

THE IDEAL SOCIAL MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR will be a creative, energetic self-starter who is knowledgeable, detail oriented, organized, efficient, able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time wisely, and with general direction, produce results and fulfill project objectives as determined collaboratively with supervisor(s) and colleagues. The position holder will have exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, will be computer proficient, and will have knowledge, or desire to learn, of core issues with which RCF engages, particularly the contemporary history and politics of Palestine. The post will work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, facilitate diverse groups, embrace and help develop an anti-racist work environment, be a team player working with other foundation personnel, and will have ability to maintain a sense of humor and perspective. The Social Media and Communications Coordinator will reflect integrity and maturity in carrying out responsibilities and in representing RCF.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as a communications, public relations, marketing or social media coordinator or manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, decision-making skills, and political acumen in written and verbal expression, style, tone, length, and organization of communications output.
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement social media campaigns across platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Ability to create, identify, and publish original, high-quality content.
  • Interest in and knowledge of Palestinian and other human rights issues.
  • Events photography skills, camera and smartphone capability.
  • Computer literacy in design and publishing and ability to oversee design and production of print materials and publications.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn website and electronic newsletter (e-news) design and management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a team environment.

DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A blend of social media and communications management experience that includes development and implementation of communications strategies, media outreach, and advocacy; management of internal and external communications; and production of social media, website, print and electronic newsletter content.
  • Experience launching social initiatives (e.g. calendaring content, event outreach, image creation, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other toolsets.
  • Ability to establish strong connections and coordination with local and global organizations.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Willingness to support the RCF mission and to present its vision, goals, views, programs, and projects in a clear, sincere, heartfelt manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and bimonthly Public Policy/Communications Committee meetings.
  • Collaborate with RCF’s management and Public Policy/Communications teams to maintain RCF’s voice across all social media platforms.
  • Develop, post, and update content on RCF’s social media platforms to ensure an engaging presence that reflects RCF’s mission, focuses, accomplishments, and voice.
  • Participate in designing and implementing mission-related social media campaigns and media blasts.
  • Monitor specified, reputable news organizations for stories related to RCF’s mission and focuses for social media reposting.
  • Monitor responses to RCF social media posts and campaigns, responding as needed to queries, and facilitating constructive dialogue across RCF social media platforms.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report upon the efficacy of RCF’s social media and communications.
  • Develop protocols and support training for RCF personnel for contributing to and engaging with RCF social media platforms.
  • Assist in developing, creating, and implementing communication strategies for RCF projects and events, identifying communication gaps, supporting completion of writing assignments, and conducting media relations related to RCF’s mission and focuses.
  • Engage with RCF personnel, partners, and program constituents to plan for and create engaging and relevant text, images, and video content to be used across communications platforms.
  • Support RCF website maintenance including content creation, updating and posting.
  • Support development and creation of RCF print and electronic newsletters, press releases, and notifications including content creation and posting.
  • Serve as a positive representative of RCF in the community and elsewhere.

SUPERVISION

The Social Media and Communications Coordinator will report directly to the Board of Directors of RCF and will coordinate with and report regularly to the President of the Board.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The Social Media & Communications Coordinator is based in the RCF office in Olympia, Washington, with a hybrid schedule of remote and in-office work possible. The post must be available for a .25 FTE hybrid schedule to be arranged according to organization and employee needs.
