Principal Scientist - Protein Science

Bonum Therapeutics, Inc. is an early-stage biopharmaceutical company creating a new class of immuno-oncology protein therapeutics that are delivered systemically but activated locally.

We are seeking a principal scientist to join our growing team.  As part of a well-supported and integrated group, the successful candidate will help drive our strategy to create new therapeutics and advance our protein drugs into the clinic, leading a team and participating in the purification and characterization of proteins. Responsibilities

• Devise strategies to achieve the protein mass and quality needed for in vitro and mouse in vivo testing of novel therapeutic candidates
• Manage three existing scientists while also contributing to the laboratory work
• Purify and characterize recombinant proteins to support multiple preclinical programs
• Evaluate protein candidates for developability using various techniques such as DSF, AC-SINS and other HPLC-based assessments
• Drive development of new technologies and work flows to increase throughput and efficiency
• Review data in electronic notebook entries for completeness and accuracy
• Coordinate purification activities with mol/bio expression lead and supervisor
• Communicate with staff members in other functional areas regarding status, inventory and characterization of critical reagents

Requirements

• BS/MS with 15+ years of relevant protein experience, or PhD with 8+ years

• Previous supervisory experience, including setting priorities, scheduling activities and enabling career development opportunities for staff members
• Significant protein purification and analysis experience with antibodies, bispecific antibodies and fusion proteins
• Significant experience with Cytiva AKTA preparative chromatography platforms and Agilent HPLC systems
• Solid understanding of protein structure, impact of charge, hydrophobicity, etc. on solubility and stability
• Experience performing and analyzing results from standard methods of SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, Western blot, IEF, DSF, and UV-Vis spectrophotometry and other common protein analysis techniques
• Ability to work efficiently and independently in a dynamic team environment
• Attentive to details and able to contribute effectively as part of a team
• Excellent record keeping and communication skills
• Enthusiasm to learn and to develop new methods

The annual salary range for the position is $160k - $190k. Job level and compensation will depend on candidate qualifications.  At Bonum we believe in building a diverse team of highly qualified individuals.  Compensation is based on skills, experience, responsibilities and external salary benchmarks.
