Full Job Description

Under the direction of the Lead Mechanic, the Mechanic is responsible for satisfactorily performing all maintenance, inspection, service, repair, overhaul, diagnostics and any other mechanic-related duties.  Must adhere to all departmental guidelines, rules and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Professionally perform servicing, maintenance, overhaul and repair of all types of District vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to: mounted equipment, portable equipment and construction equipment. 
  • Exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned duties to ensure the safety and operability of District owned equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair issues on variety of vehicles from passenger cars, trucks, construction equipment and aerial devices such as bucket trucks, derricks and cranes.
  • Perform electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagnostics and repair.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ability to operate various forms of vehicles and equipment,
  • Must be skilled in welding and fabrication of various types of metal.
  • Review and complete department vehicle maintenance and repair records in a timely manner.
  • Meet and work with persons inside and outside of the District in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all reports, files and relevant records related to maintenance, repairs and mileage.
  • Assure the proper inventory amount of all parts, tires, fluids and tools is maintained.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest changes and improvements in fleet vehicles and management through trade literature, seminars, schools, and manufacturer’s representatives.

 

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate of Technical Arts degree in Automotive or Diesel Technology or five (5) years of journey level related experience.
  • Demonstrable hands on experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Class A CDL

This is a union position with starting hourly rate of $47.26
