Full Job Description

The Field Gleaning Coordinator is responsible for coordinating our Gleaning Program. They must develop and maintain a network of farmers, volunteers, and interns. They must harvest crops and fruit from residential Farms, farmers’ fields, and any other sites, then distribute it to our food bank clients.

The priority for this position is to oversee and coordinate all Gleaning activities and maintain relationships with our partners.

This is a part-time position that requires the employee to work approximately 25-40 hours per week, 22 weeks per year during the gleaning season (June - October 31st). Depending on the gleaning schedule, The hours are flexible throughout the week.

Responsibilities


The primary responsibilities of the Gleaning Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

Outreach and development of ongoing relationships with weekly volunteers and farmers at the market

Recruit, retain, train and schedule volunteers for gleaning activities

Participate in gleaning most Saturdays from June through October

Provide professional level food rescue and gleaning service, accurate inventory reports and salvage logs

Support Food Bank managers to plan for and complete food distribution

Drive a truck and transport produce from markets and other donation sites to distribution sites

Coordinate maintenance of website and social media outlets

Create public communications such social and print media, gleaning contracts with farmers

During the season create and send a once a week email newsletter sharing current activities, create special gleaning events, and send other announcements to volunteers and for recruiting purposes


Volunteer Management include, but not limited to:

Cultivate and support volunteers, onboarding, offseason training, develop and implement recruitment campaigns

Ensure safe product handling, teach techniques for proper gleaning

Plan, direct and lead the work of 1-2 interns Skills

Help volunteers sign up, answer questions, and track volunteer hours in system per site


Requirements

Qualifications:

Very organized, efficient, dependable, must have integrity

Strong computer skills, record-keeping, and data entry skills

Strong oral communication, marketing, writing, phone and public relation skills

Managerial abilities including planning, delegating, and task facilitation Qualifications

A high school diploma required, college degree preferred

1 year or more of leadership/management experience required

Ability to drive a truck, valid driver’s license required, clean driving record; CDL preferred

Demonstrated interest or background in farming, non-profit administration, sustainable agriculture, nutrition, or social work preferred

Demonstrated ability to interact, direct and collaborate with diverse populations, including those who are experiencing mental illness or substance abuse

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds for extended periods

Ability to listen and speak

Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and squat


Must have a valid drivers license.
