Key Responsibilities

As the Director of Investigative Science, you will:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary oversight for the Investigative Science Division, aligning with strategic business plans and research agendas.
  • Team Management: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Managers and Scientific Investigators, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Research Excellence: Lead and sustain an independent research program that garners national and international recognition, driving impactful studies in Health Services Research, Behavioral Science, Health Policy, Epidemiology, and related disciplines.
  • Funding and Grants: Secure and manage extramural research funding, ensuring sustained financial support for pioneering research initiatives.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage division budgets, oversee staffing, and implement quality improvement initiatives to maintain high standards of research and administration.
  • Collaboration: Act as a liaison within the Institute Leadership Team (ILT) and across other divisions, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and high-quality research outcomes.
  • Public Engagement: Represent the Investigative Science Division at national and international forums, presenting research findings and influencing health policy decisions.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree: Ph.D., DrPH, SciD, MD, or similar in a health care-related field such as Medicine, Epidemiology, Behavioral Science, or Health Services.
  • Extensive Experience:
  • 15+ years as an extramurally-funded Principal Investigator leading complex research, implementation, or evaluation studies.
  • 15+ years of experience leading research teams and mentoring colleagues.
  • 10+ years of management experience supervising research scientists, including doctorate-trained investigators.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in securing peer-reviewed grant funding and achieving scholarly productivity as a Senior Investigator or Full Professor.
  • Leadership Skills: Exceptional ability to build and lead multidisciplinary teams, drive strategic initiatives, and foster a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of research methods, content expertise in your scientific field, and the ability to compete successfully for external research funding.
  • Reputation: Recognized as a national or international leader in your specialty area, with a strong publication record and active participation in the scientific community.
