EPIC Early Learning is seeking an experienced Accounting Director to lead our finance team. In this pivotal role, the Accounting Director will be responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing insightful financial analysis to support the organization's mission. The Accounting Director will serve as a key leadership team member and strategic partner, overseeing all financial aspects of the organization. This role will ensure sound financial planning, management of multiple funding streams (state, federal and private), and compliance with grant requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of nonprofit financial management, particularly within early childhood education, grant management and Head Start and ECEAP Programs. They will demonstrate expertise in cash flow monitoring, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting as well as a passion for ensuring financial practices align with the organization’s ethical and mission driven goals.
Pay Level:
$95,000 to $110,00 Annually
Requirements
1. BA/BS in Accounting, Finance Degree or Business Administration
2. Minimum 6 -8 years of successful fiscal management experience as Controller/CFO/Director in a nonprofit or service organization.
3. Experience in all departments with sound grasp of organizational linkage
4. Experience in leveraging technology to enhance financial processes
5. Demonstrated leadership skills
6. Strong knowledge of financial management software with the ability to manage process of system enhancement
7. Strong moral and business ethics
8. Proven management ability including strong coaching skills
9. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite of products
10. Strong personal commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness
Essential Job Functions:
1. Financial Management:
- Analysis of financial results
- Capital requirements planning
- Budget appropriation and variance analysis
- Work with Executive Director and EPIC Leadership Team to prepare annual/monthly operating budgets of the organization and grant specific budgets
- Monitor and report progress against budget
- Annual capital expenditure budget
- Finance/accounting
- Cash flows
- Revenue analysis
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with granting agencies, banks and other third-party providers.
- Develop financial forecasting model for company to reach its revenue and profit roles.
- Develop cost allocation process.
- Manage all corporate investments.
2. Responsible for all accounting and financial controls:
- Maintenance and development of internal controls
- General accounting policies
3. Manage directly, or supervise, all accounting and financial reporting systems
- General ledger
- Accounts payable (cash control and management)
- Cash management/accounts receivable (aged accounts receivable)
- Billing
- Adjustments
- Inventory
- Payroll
- Taxes, if applicable, with CPA firms
- Planning
- Return preparation (quarterly and annual business taxes)
- Monthly financial statements
- Policies
- Checks
- Employee benefits accounting
- Weekly key indicator reports or other reports as developed
- Review of financial management software
4. Financial performance communications:
- Presents financial reports to the Board of Directors, Board Finance Committee, senior management and program directors
- Discuss expense control/budget information with program directors
- Assist management to interpret financial information as necessary
5. Integral team player for new or continuing funding proposals.
6. Staff management:
- Develop people and foster professional growth
- Hire, train, and provide necessary disciplinary and termination activities for accounting functions
- Communicate company values/culture and defined and agreed upon by the CEO
- Training: assure employees receive appropriate cross training
- Set performance standards, conduct formal performance reviews and provide day-to-day performance feedback
7. Risk management: maintain adequate insurance coverage for all aspects of the organization.
8. Within the financial/accounting department, provide strategic direction, assist in implementation and monitor for appropriate changes the management information systems.
9. Goal performance and accountability:
· Stay current with changing regulations and trends within financing, accounting, MIS, HR, grant recipient awards, grants, OMB
- Meet financial control and other performance as set and agreed upon with the CEO.
10. Serve as a team member of the organization interacting on a regular basis with members of the management team, program directors and others as applicable.
11. Prepare schedules required for annual audits.
