The Henrico Education Foundation (HEF) plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing high-quality programming for the students attending Henrico County Public Schools. We contribute towards the educational success and well-being of our community’s youth.
The Senior Center Director will manage the Community Learning Center (CLC) Afterschool Program at Highland Springs Elementary School by ensuring a positive, safe, enriching environment, in accordance with the Henrico Education Foundation’s mission, policies, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the operations of the CLC afterschool Program, and summer program, if determined, to include enforcing policies and procedures, Program planning, promoting the Program, implementing the Program, hiring and training staff, assessing risk, and conducting ongoing program evaluation. This includes:
- Read, understand, execute, and collaborate on the 21st CCLC grant, grant goals and expectations including attendance
- Work with HCPS CLC Liaison to ensure that programming needs are met including transportation, nutrition and facilities usage
- Attend Impact meetings
- Develop and send out regular newsletters
- Plan and prepare monthly family engagement activities in collaboration/connection with the FACE department/contacts
- Submit appropriate documentation in the internal grant obligations folders
- Follow up with teachers on student progress, formally or informally
- Plan Program lessons and activities and coordinate supplies
- Complete and issue programming surveys, as needed
- Ensure attendance is regularly maintained in Eleyo
- Provide list of students and headcount to Cafeteria Manager
- Administer medication to students, as necessary
- Conduct monthly fire drills; shelter-in-place twice a year (fall and spring)
- Ensure the adherence to all government, local, Henrico Education Foundation, and 21st CCLC grant regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards for summer program and afterschool programs.
- Ensure licensing binder is accurate and up to date
- Prepare and participate in monitoring and licensing visits
- Serve in direct delivery of program at a designated program, when necessary
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with Henrico County Public Schools (principal, administration, teachers), including prompt and professional communication, appropriate use of facilities and storage, and positive collaboration.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, vendors, volunteers, staff, and community
- Responds to all inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Serve as onsite point of contact for vendors
- Interpret, communicate, and promote the Henrico Education Foundation mission, goals, and objectives to employees and community.
- Partner/collaborate with organizations whose mission is aligned with the Henrico Education Foundation to meet the needs of community children and families to include the FACE department, CIS, and school PTA programs.
- Actively participate in Principal meetings, Program bi-annual meetings, school Staff Meetings, and participate in activities/events.
- Collaborate with school staff to intentionally connect out of school time programs with the school day and/or other school goals and initiatives.
- Assist other Program site needs as assigned with Program planning (activities, supplies, etc) and creating lessons that enhance learning and social development
- Manage staff which includes hiring, training, performance management, coaching, and task management to ensure that they successfully fulfill their job responsibilities; conduct regular Staff Meetings and/or daily huddles
- Partner with Program Coordinator to ensure Programs are staffed to be in ratio
- Keep accurate files on students (allergies, medications, etc)
- Ensure that the Program operates in a fiscally sound manner staying within standard allotments
- Assist school administrative staff as assigned
- Support Henrico Education Foundation initiatives to help meet organization goals.
Requirements
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Meet the requirements of Program Director as detailed in the Virginia Regulations for Licensed Child Day Centers. (must have at least one of the following)
- A graduate degree in a child-related field such as, but not limited to, elementary education, nursing, or recreation from a college or university and six months of programmatic experience.
- An endorsement or bachelor's degree in a child-related field such as, but not limited to, elementary education, nursing, or recreation from a college or university and one year of programmatic experience.
- Forty-eight semester hours or 72 quarter hours of college credit from a college or university of which 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours are in child-related subjects and one year of programmatic experience.
- Management experience including hiring and training
- Experience working with students
- Experience working in a licensed child care facility
- Behavior management experience and experience training others on tactics and strategies
- Excellent relationship builder
- Dependable team player
- Knowledge of youth development approaches to the academic and social development of youth
- At least 21 years of age with reliable transportation and a history of dependability.
