We are looking for a Software Development Intern that will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Urban Grid’s internal software solutions, working closely with engineering and project teams to best understand needs and opportunities to grow the company. This position will be part of the Grid Innovation group and will focus on providing insight into project opportunities in our competitive solar landscape. Our current applications and application roadmap rely heavily on web development with robust data analytics and GIS interactivity, making these skillsets essential.
This is a paid internship that will start on or around June 3, 2024, with an end date of August 9, 2024.
During the 10-week program, interns will participate in virtual, company-wide and department meetings, virtual bi-weekly Friday lunch & learn trainings and a culminating group presentation on your overall internship experience. The program is structured to provide exposure to careers in renewable energy, best practices in internal communications as part of a remote/ hybrid team and best of all, the opportunity to work and support a team of professionals who are experts in their field.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with user teams to design, develop, and deploy specialized software, applications, and databases
- Maintain code integrity and organization consistent with existing platform
- Collaborate with Grid Innovation team to design and launch new tools, including documentation of deployment procedures, roadmaps, release plans, etc.
- Educate engineering teams on opportunities to utilize automation and custom applications to empower employees and streamline job responsibilities
Location
This position will be primarily remote with periodic meetups with our team. Preferably within the Eastern time zone.
Candidate to work full-time hours Monday - Friday during the summer duration of the internship.
Requirements
- Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree program in Computer Science or a related field, Sophomore or above
- Interest in renewable energy
- Proficient in Python, Flask, JavaScript, and other prevalent web development technologies
- Familiarity using Git to maintain version-control
- Skilled with UI design optimized for ease of use and human performance
- Experience with Agile development methodology
- Expertise with relational databases (MSSQL preferred)
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to coordinate and communicate work with multiple disciplines, and team members.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and be able to quickly adapt to changes and shift priorities to meet project needs.
- Strong work ethic and exceptionally high work standards
- Work pro-actively individually, and collaboratively within the team
- Self-motivated and work with minimal direction
