Research Librarian (Fact Checking)

LAC Federal is seeking Research Librarians to provide rigorous fact checking and citation verification as part of a peer review process to ensure that scientific publications are are accurately cited and based on scientific evidence. The Librarian is responsible for conducting two tasks, citation verification and statement matching. The ideal candidate will have a keen attention to detail and the ability to interpret scientific and scholarly literature across a variety of disciplines. In-depth subject matter expertise is not required, but a knowledge of general scientific concepts, terms, and methods is important. This project is 100% remote but requires a very flexible schedule to meet client needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review and confirmation accuracy and completeness of all citations and references including the all bibliographic data

• Verify that the statements, facts, statistics, and other factual statement cited are accurate and flag any for review

Requirements

• MLIS/MLS from an ALA Accredited Institution
• At least one year of experience performing fact checking/citation verification and/or research services
• Knowledge of proper bibliographic citations and experience with bibliographic maintenance tools such as EndNote or Zotero
• Ability to interpret scholarly science, engineering, and medicine related subjects
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to think independently and critically to analyze complex texts
• Must have reliable internet access

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Undergraduate degree in a scientific field
• Experience as a scientific research and/or reference librarian
• Prior experience with peer review of scientific materials
