The Purchasing Agent Level 3 will manage procurement activities for projects in South Hill, Virginia, with support for local job sites in Boynton and Mecklenburg County. Reporting to the Vice President of Procurement, this role will work closely with internal teams, including Program/Project teams and Engineering, to execute procurement plans and ensure that high-value programs proceed smoothly and efficiently. Experience with mission-critical projects is preferred, as this role supports high-stakes projects where timely, precise procurement is essential. High-performing candidates may have opportunities for rapid promotion. The Purchasing Agent will work alongside an experienced agent, gaining hands-on experience in procurement planning, vendor sourcing, RFP creation, and post-award management. This position offers growth potential, with high-performing candidates eligible for rapid promotion.
Responsibilities
- Manage procurement processes for construction materials and services.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to secure cost-effective and quality materials.
- Review purchase requisitions and work with project managers to determine needs.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to construction sites.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and inventory levels.
- Develop and foster strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
- Monitor market trends and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
Requirements
- Location: Must be able to work onsite in South Hill, VA, with routine visits to project sites in Boynton and Mecklenburg County.
- Experience: 3–7 years in a purchasing or procurement role; candidates with slightly less experience may be considered if they show strong potential.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field such as business, supply chain management, or engineering.
- Legal Eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder.
- Experience: 3–7 years in a purchasing role, with a preference for experience working on high-value construction or engineering projects.
- Target Industries: Construction, engineering, manufacturing, or similar sectors where vendor and subcontractor sourcing are central.
- Product and Vendor Knowledge: Experience sourcing Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), specialty trade subcontractors, and fabricators.
- Project Coordination Familiarity: Experience working with project teams to ensure alignment between procurement and project timelines, budgets, and specifications.
- Procurement Planning and Implementation: Skilled in developing procurement plans during the bidding phase, including creating RFPs and RFQs, and managing post-award implementation.
- Vendor Sourcing and Prequalification: Experience identifying and prequalifying vendors, evaluating capabilities, capacity, and compliance with contract terms.
- Negotiation and Contract Finalization: Strong negotiation skills to secure best-value agreements with vendors and finalize comprehensive vendor packages.
- Project Coordination and Knowledge Transfer: Ability to transition bid-phase procurement plans and coordinate with project teams for successful project execution.
- Market Analysis and Intelligence Gathering: Ability to incorporate current market conditions, pricing trends, and logistical requirements into procurement plans.
- Technology Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and Excel, with basic knowledge of finance and accounting principles for tracking budgets.
