Job Title: PT Security Officer
St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school for girls in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 enrolling 946 girls in Early Learners (age 3) through grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW
St. Catherine’s School seeks a part-time Campus Security Officer to begin in the 2024-2025 school year. This position will join a team responsible for the safety and security of all students, faculty, staff and visitors of St. Catherine’s School. This position will also be responsible for protecting school property and maintaining the security of all facilities, parking lots, walkways and grounds using proven crime prevention including crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and school safety practices.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Maintain a circulating presence on the St. Catherine’sSchool 17 acre campus sufficient to provide for and enhance safe student drop-off / pick-up, increased awareness and monitoring of campus visitors and activities
● Interact with and support the School’s various administrative directors of the Lower, Middle and Upper School divisions, as well as athletics
● Under the direction of the Director of Security and Training, assist with maintaining the Crisis Response Manual, mapping and Crisis plans.
● Possess a strong knowledge of law enforcement methods, techniques and procedures and the ability to build the relationships necessary to increase awareness and confidence in St. Catherine’s as a safe and secure environment for students and adults
● Make scheduled rounds of the campus to support security and increase awareness of surroundings
● Respond to safety / security requests from school administrators, faculty / staff, students, parents, and other visitors
● Check status and maintain awareness of closed / locked doors, gates, control panels, alarm and notification systems
● Maintain contact with school administrators via cell phone, text, and/or 2-way radio
● Interact with the technology, maintenance, grounds, and athletic fields staff to provide safe campus operations;
● Periodically direct and or escort visitors to campus locations;
● Provide support for the maintenance of the School’s access control, alarm and notification systems;
● Implement best practices for safety and security in school settings.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
● Minimum ten years of experience in law enforcement.
● Possess knowledge of trends and best practices for safety and security in a school setting.
● Proven leadership and project management abilities;
● Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills;
● Ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously and frequently changing priorities.
● Basic computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
