Responsibilities
Project Accounting positions are a customer service role and are required to support their respective ITAC organizational units in a timely and professional manner. They are responsible for the information associated with the life of a job, from setup to closure. The most fundamental functions for Project Accounting are efficiency, timeliness and accuracy. The Project Accounting positions are responsible for aiding the successful delivery of project costs, project information, and timeliness of project data. These positions also require the ability to work in an open and collaborative environment. The ability to work in a team environment is crucial. Cross-training is vital to the success of the Project Accounting group. The following summary details the responsibilities:
- Project Accounting Clerk (PAC) roles are responsible for assisting the Project Accounting staff, which includes the Project Controller, Assistant Project Controller and Project Accounting Specialists (PAS) as needed.
- Entry of all proposal jobs is to be completed in the accounting software by the end of the week.
- On a weekly schedule, they are to review and release subcontract payments to our Accounts Payable department.
- They are to weekly upload the consumable report and monitor the consumable process for price or product changes.
- Conduct and manage the Accounts Receivable collection process daily.
- Assist our Accounts Payable administrator with Accounts Payable data entry weekly, as needed. Set up new customers in our accounting system.
- Request sales tax exemption certificates from the Virginia Department of Taxation as directed. In addition to these designated tasks, they are to back up the Project Accounting Specialists (PAS) with job setups in our accounting system, backup the other OU PAS in receiving, tracking, scanning, entering timesheets in the accounting software.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in project accounting or general accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of construction industry accounting practices is a plus.
