Planner I

Performs work planning and coordinating planning programs, services, and functions in the Community Development department, interpreting and enforcing county zoning and subdivision ordinances, reviewing land use applications, presenting findings, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Essential Functions

·        Directs the County planning activities; serves as the County Zoning Administrator and subdivision agent; manages and

updates land use policies and procedures; oversees the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals; ensures ordinance compliance.

·        Performs Capital Improvement Plan updates; conducts Comprehensive Plan reviews, coordinates tasks and projects with other departments.

·        Assists the general public by phone, email, and in person; directs inquires to the proper resource as needed; answers questions and inquiries regarding zoning and subdivision regulations.

·        Reviews building permit, agricultural exemption, and business license applications for zoning compliance.

·        Presents projects to the Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, and other committees.

·        Serves as a liaison on the electronic codification of the County ordinances; serves as the GIS Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in planning, or related field and three to five years of experience in planning, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
