We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pharmacist to join our team at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. As a Pharmacist at Aspire Medical Staffing, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for our patients. You will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide pharmaceutical care, including medication therapy management, drug information, and patient education.

Requirements

  • Degree: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
  • Education: Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE). Have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) approved continuing education of at least 15 hours which maintains pharmacy skills and knowledge in the preceding two (2) years.
  • Licensure: Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license
  • Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience after graduation within the preceding 36 months.
  • Possess experience in the use of pharmacy computer systems such as the DHA MHS GENESIS electronic health record or retail/hospital pharmacy computer systems.
  • Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Job Duties:

  • Deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical services within the personnel, supply, and equipment capabilities of the facility.
  • Review patient profiles at the time of dispensing in order to closely monitor medication therapy.
  • Ensure accuracy of all pharmaceutical products prepared or processed by technical staff.
  • Work closely with clinical staff in developing patient wellness programs such as smoking cessation programs and asthma classes.
  • Provide medication information to the clinical staff as required, including in-service training on new medications on the market; appropriate use of medications; comparison of current medication therapies; and other topics as deemed appropriate by the department head.
  • Provide clinical direction of corpsmen and pharmacy technicians and provide input to government supervisors on job performance.
  • Maintain inventory control of all handled pharmaceuticals, especially scheduled pharmaceuticals, and uphold pharmacy security in accordance with federal and local policies and procedures. Maintain appropriate records and security of all scheduled controlled substances according to applicable regulations.
  • Consult with other specialty practitioners who have been referred for pharmaceutical services.
  • Execute drug utilization reviews (DURs) as deemed necessary.
  • Utilize pharmacy computer and robotic systems in accordance with MTF protocols.
  • Provide drug information consultation services:
  • Pharmacokinetic Drug Services
  • Monitoring Organ and Clinical Status of Patients and recommending appropriate dosing
  • Support graduate medical education through pointed interventions and lectures
  • Function as a precept or in support of graduate medical education
  • Apply age specific knowledge and competency appropriate to patient population
  • Identify and prevent or resolve each of the eight types of drug-related problems for each patient:
  • Needing pharmacy therapy but not receiving it (a drug indication)
  • Needing, taking or receiving the wrong drug
  • Needing, taking or receiving too little of the correct drug
  • Needing, taking or receiving too much of the correct drug
  • Experiencing an adverse drug reaction
  • Experiencing a drug-drug, drug-food interaction
  • Not taking or receiving the drug prescribed
  • Taking or receiving a drug for which there is no valid medical indication
