Shelter House was established in 1981 as a grassroots responder to the homelessness crisis in Fairfax County. Since the organization’s inception, we have adapted and grown to meet community needs, all while working in partnership with government and private partners and community members. About the Role:
The Program Support Coordinator (PSC) provides essential coverage, assists with restocking supplies, and the cleanliness of the drop-in center. The PSC serves as the primary point of contact for participants needs. This role includes but is not limited to crisis intervention, facilities management, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all front desk duties. The program manager is tasked with ensuring the safety of the drop-in center. The PSC should work in collaboration to support the safety and capacity of the drop-in center.
Requirements
Operations & Safety
· Promote respectful behavior with staff and participants.
· Uphold the confidentiality for all participants.
· Conduct intakes with new participants explaining the program and expectations.
- Complete intake paperwork
- Input all data into the HMIS database
· Provide orientation and answer questions about the drop-in center.
· Monitor the drop-in center by tracking the:
- Capacity of the drop-in participants
- Guest Check-in logs
- Front desk calls and inquiries
· Assist participants to ensure access to supplies and services within the drop-in center.
· Distribute toiletries, laundry supplies, and other essentials to participants as requested.
· Remind and encourage safety guidelines to all respectfully by utilizing de-escalation skills.
- Notify the supervisor of any critical incidents and complete a Critical Incident Report before the end of the shift for supervisor review and submission.
· Update the daily log by documenting all interactions with clients and any other significant events in the drop-in center, complete other required logs.
· Accept donations and support volunteer programs and events in the shelter drop-in shelter
· Assist as needed with tasks related to the drop-in center’s day-to-day operations, such as:
- Foodservice, transportation, teaching laundry skills, assisting with center opening and closing procedures, monitoring the center for safety
· Maintain all intakes and service transactions are inputted before the end of the shift.
Collaboration:
· Work closely with the case management team to promote participant's service plans.
· Maintain ongoing communication with case managers regarding any safety or unusual behavior in the form of an observation or incident report
· Ensure all relevant information about participants is disseminated to all appropriate staff members promptly.
· Participate in staff meetings and staff training as directed.

· Work as a contributing team member within Shelter House and external agencies

· Perform other assigned duties as needed
About You:
- A high school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience in human services field i.e., mental health, substance abuse, homeless and DV
- 1 year of experience in customer service
- Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and team members
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working in programs serving homeless families
- Experience working in a residential environment
- Current CPR/ First aid certification
Physical Requirements:
● Annual TB Test is required
● Ability to sit or stand for long periods
● Ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds
