St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 enrolling 946 girls age 3 through grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW

Director of Facilities reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for managing the effective operation and performance of the Facilities team, which includes supervision of one Grounds Manager, one Custodial Manager and six additional staff members. This position will also assist in managing numerous projects per year (mechanical, electrical, roofing, fire alarms, finishes, and small renovation projects) and assist with managing annual maintenance contracts and vendor agreements.

Position Status:  Salaried Exempt, full-time, 12-months

Hours of Work:  Standard work week with flexibility based on scheduled events

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers department policies and procedures in a consistent and fair manner including managing all hiring, training, scheduling, payroll and performance development of all Facilities  employees.  
  • Develops strategies to accomplish the department’s mission of maintaining reliable mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to include implementation of a formal preventative maintenance program.
  • Assists the COO in developing Departmental and Capital budgets
  • Responsible for maintaining efficient operation within assigned budget parameters
  • Assists with identifying deferred maintenance and capital renewal projects
  • Develops scopes of work and bids the work to the appropriate trades
  • Evaluates changes to the scopes of work and requests for payment.
  • Inspects the installations performed by the various trades for quality assurance, contract compliance, and troubleshoots any issues that arise.
  • Motivates the Facilities team to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Assists in performing logistical decision-making for day-to-day operations 
  • Responsible for staff timekeeping, payroll submittal, and invoice approval
  • Monitor CMMS for daily assignments and assign to staff to carry out duties in a timely manner
  • Attend pre-planning event meetings and assists with set-up and breakdown as required       

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a valid VA driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent in combination with five or more years of supervisory / management experience in a maintenance services organization with demonstrated experience in administrative duties; experience working at an educational institution preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, cad drawings, and specifications
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills for communication and use of scheduling software
  • Quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems while seeking ways to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations pertaining to work performed.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for proper use of hand tools and motorized equipment
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
