Full Job Description
Performs collections and exhibition research, facilitates language study in the galleries, and supports the increasing demand for digital access to and engagement with all aspects of the museum’s operation.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $37,539-45,982 per year. This is a 18 month term-limited appointment beginning July 1, 2024 and ending December 31, 2025.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide background research on exhibitions that will be developed at Middlebury, including work related to the museum’s Salon Louis XVI collections, and research artists and objects in the museum’s collection.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director for Operations and Finance and the Director of Engagement to draft a digital engagement strategy for the museum, including goals for digital pedagogy and exhibit enhancement.
- Support the Associate Director for Operations and Finance in maintaining and updating the museum’s website, blog, and social media platforms, including crafting various forms of content.
- Work with HARC and other faculty to create video and other digital tools to support faculty teaching and museum engagement efforts based around objects in the museum’s collection.
- Facilitate language study in the galleries and develop resources for supporting various modes of language instruction.
- Assist the Museum Registrar with designing, publishing, and distributing (via Amazon, the museum’s website, etc.) an eBook version of the museum’s recently published collection handbook.
- Present one public talk on a topic of your choice.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required; preference will be given to recent graduates of Middlebury College.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills required.
- Must be highly proficient in at least one language other than English, with a strong preference for proficiency in French.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and web editing/content management systems essential; digital photography and video editing experience preferred.
- Prior museum experience preferred but not required; preference will be given to students who have worked at the museum during their undergraduate years, History of Art and Architecture or Studio Art majors, and participants in the Museum Ambassadors Program.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Must work at a computer for several hours a day. Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
