Your Impact:
As the Controller at MSI, you will manage and develop the company’s general accounting and financial reporting systems, ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and comprehensive financial information. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, while ensuring full compliance with tax regulations.
In this role, you will also lead a team of four accountants, fostering a positive and productive work environment. As a strong people manager and motivator, you’ll ensure your team has the support and resources needed to excel, while driving efficiency and continuous improvement in department processes.

Your Role:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Lead the development and management of the MSI’s accounting and financial reporting systems. Recommend and implement process improvements on an ongoing basis.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements. Evaluate variances to budget and report variances to CFO/COO in a timely manner.
- Prepare month-end and year-end analyses of financial statements. Take action to ensure that information is accurate and complete.
- Oversee all activities related to state and federal tax compliance issues.
- Prepare a variety of Company (department) budgets and forecast expenditures based on solid accounting practices and principles.
- Prepare reports upon request for President, COO, CEO, and other managers. Ensure information is accurate and up to date.
- Oversee disbursements of funds by the Company and prepare supporting documentation.
- Maintain records of the Company’s transactions and assets. Ensure files are kept up-to-date and easily accessible when needed.
Leadership & Management
- Supervise and evaluate performance of accounting staff. Create an atmosphere of open two-way communication.
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department and take action to adequately staff the department to meet department goals and objectives. Oversee, update, and maintain accounting policies and procedures. Stays up to date on changing regulations and makes recommendations to GMT as needed to ensure compliance with same.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate accounting operation functions for MSI and related companies.
- Oversee, update, and maintain accounting policies and procedures. Stay up to date on changing regulations and make recommendations to GMT as needed to ensure compliance.
- Work with the Company’s independent accountant on annual reviews of the Company’s financial statements. Implement recommendations in compliance with audit requirements. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for their annual review.
Compliance & Controls
- Proactively review systems and procedures to ensure corporate compliance with all relevant laws and general accounting principles.
- Evaluate accounting and internal control systems.
Financial Analysis & Strategy
- Manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial data necessary for an accurate accounting to help drive business results.
- Assist in the development and monitor the business’ (financial) performance metrics.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases as needed. Make recommendations to GMT for changes to meet operational demands.
Cash & Fund Management
- Conduct required cash management activities.
- Take action to ensure that accounts payable and accounts receivable functions are paid and/or received in a timely manner.
Miscellaneous
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Perform other duties as required
Required Experience:
5 years of finance manager, accounting, controller or related field required. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other related finance field. Advance degrees (MBA) or professional certifications (CPA, CMA) are helpful but not required.
- Ability to effectively operate QuickBooks, and/or other active accounting/bookkeeping/ERP software programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Prior experience with ERP implementations is a plus.
- Prior experience with process automation (AI, A/P processing, Power BI).
- Prior experience managing a small staff (less than 10).
- Ability to effectively delegate work duties.
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively drive continual process improvement (PDCA, Lean) initiatives.
- Exceptional organizational and follow-up skills required along with the ability to multi-task and bring individual issues to timely closure.
- Ability to display flexibility to meet the operational demands of the department activities required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, transaction heavy, team centered, results-driven environment.
- Ability to display strong problem solving/analytical skills.
- Knowledge of full range of MSI Programs.
