Full Job Description
The Associate Vice President and Dean of Students is as an educator with a deep investment in the academic and personal growth of students and oversees a portfolio of functional areas including Residential Life, Care Management, Class Deans, New Student Experience and Community Standards. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Assistant VP/DOS plays an essential role in shaping the Vermont undergraduate student experience with strong emphasis on equity and inclusion for all.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $118,804-$151,508 per year. The application window for this position will close on June 10th, 2024 and the review process will begin mid-June.
Core Responsibilities:
- Serve as member of the Vice President for Student Affairs’ Leadership Team.
- Set the tone for the Dean of Students area as one of inclusivity, respect, integrity, accountability and support for all students.
- Provide strategic leadership for all DoS departments and offices including supervising dean- and director- level DOS staff and providing programmatic and budgetary leadership.
- Provide leadership and guidance when student-related crises occur and manage these crises at the campus- and individual level with discretion, and respect for students, families and the institution.
- Serve (or designate others to serve) as chair or co-chair of the Care Team, Administration Committee, and Returns Committee.
- Collaborate with senior academic administrators in areas of intersection between student life and academic policy.
- Supervise the Office of Community Standards (OCS) and serve as appellate officer for conduct cases determined by OCS.
- Serve on the College’s Emergency Management Team and be the primary liaison for the student affairs division on the EMT.

Requirements
- Graduate degree in student affairs, higher education administration, or related field, or equivalent skills and experience.
- At least 7 years of related experience in student affairs or higher education, with progressive growth in leadership responsibilities.
- Broad, deep and current knowledge of student affairs competencies and disciplines.
- Excellent organizational, change-management, interpersonal, writing, and problem-solving skills. Live within 45 minutes or less from campus.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Typical office environment; Occasional evening and weekend work as needed for critical student incidents; Ability to move around campus easily as needed.
