Full Job Description
Waypoint Academy, a coed residential treatment center specializing in treating adolescents ages 13-18 with anxiety, depression, and OCD is seeking Youth Mentors to join our team. We are located in Huntsville and are open year-round. As a Youth Mentor, you will have the opportunity to assist our students, helping them to develop new skills, advance their personal growth and make a positive impact in their lives. You will be part of a supportive team of experienced professionals, both clinical and academic, who are committed to helping adolescents heal mentally, physically, and emotionally. . Discovery Ranch combines the power of traditional and experiential therapies, including equine therapy and horsemanship programs, to create a clinically sophisticated, relationship-based setting that promotes growth and healing.
Youth Mentor Responsibilities:
- Monitor the students' daily routines, activities and chores.
- Attend and facilitate group therapy sessions and outdoor recreational activities.
- Assist students with their academic and extracurricular goals.
- Help manage and document behavioral, emotional and social issues and progress.
- Provide support to students and their families.
- Maintain a safe and positive environment for the students.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students, and respond to emergencies as needed
- Collaborate with other professionals as part of the treatment team.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to maintain a high standard of care for students
Part time or Full time hours | $16-19/hour DOE
Morning Shifts:
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 7am-3pm + 2 Sundays a month 7am-3pm
Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday 7am-3pm + 2 Sundays a month 7am-3pm
Swing Shifts:
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 2:30-11pm + 2 Sundays a month 2:30-11pm
Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday 2:30-11pm + 2 Sundays a month 2:30-11pm
Requirements
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team
- Must be able to demonstrate flexibility, patience, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to respond effectively and efficiently in crisis situations
- Passionate about working with young people and helping them to achieve their full potential.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field (such as social work, psychology, or counseling) is preferred but not required
- Experience working with teenagers or in a related field is preferred
- Must be able to pass motor vehicle record check
- First Aid & CPR certified (we may provide)
