Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people? Waypoint Academy, in beautiful Huntsville, a supportive coed residential treatment center for adolescents aged 13-18 dealing with anxiety, depression, and OCD, is on the hunt for enthusiastic Youth Mentors to join our team! Here, you’ll have the chance to inspire and guide students as they embark on their journey of personal growth and healing.
As a Youth Mentor, you’ll have a front-row seat to help our amazing students develop essential skills, find their passions, and achieve their goals. You'll work closely with a dedicated team of caring professionals, both in clinical and academic roles, committed to nurturing a safe and empowering environment for all.
Here’s a peek at your day-to-day:
- Keep an eye on students as they navigate their daily routines, activities, and chores – think of it as being their helping hand!
- Join in and support group therapy sessions and outdoor fun activities.
- Cheer on students as they tackle their academic and extracurricular aspirations.
- Document and help navigate any behavioral or emotional challenges they may face.
- Be the champion of maintaining a safe and uplifting environment.
- Work hand-in-hand with a wonderful team of professionals who care deeply about each student.
- Engage in ongoing training to keep your skills sharp and your knowledge fresh.
We have part-time opportunities available, with a pay range of $16-19/hour depending on experience.
Here’s how our shifts look:
Morning Shifts:
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday: 7am-3pm + 2 Sundays a month
Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday: 7am-3pm + 2 Sundays a month
Swing Shifts:
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday: 2:30-11pm + 2 Sundays a month
Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday: 2:30-11pm + 2 Sundays a month
Requirements
- Willingness to undergo a background check – keeping everyone safe is our top priority!
- Awesome communication and people skills.
- Ability to stay calm and collected in crisis situations – you’ll be a reassuring presence.
- A genuine passion for working with young people and helping them by setting healthy boundaries.
- Previous experience with teenagers or in similar roles is preferred but not essential.
- A valid driver’s license – you may need to pass a motor vehicle record check.
- Food Handlers Permit, TB-Test, First Aid & CPR certification (we can help you get this if you don’t have it yet!).
