RMC is hiring a Radar Technician to support our customer at Hill AFB in Ogden, Utah. The selected applicant must have extensive overall knowledge of the impacts that man-made obstructions, wind turbines, and large wind farms have on FAA, DoD, and DHS long range, short range, and beacon radar systems, as well as extensive specific knowledge of the impact that wind turbines and large wind farms have on the 84 RADES’ supported radar systems.

The selected applicant will provide technical support in all aspects of Tethered Aerostat Radar systems including, to include:

  • Acting as subject matter expert on a variety of assigned complex radar systems and associated equipment.
  • Supporting the squadron and the commander in various areas of program/project development, planning, and evaluation.
  • Collecting and analyzing data from a variety of radar systems and data processors.
  • Conducting formal and informal training on equipment, components, and procedures to include developing, producing, teaching, and evaluating all course curricula.
  • Technically managing personnel dedicated to an assigned program or project, maintaining cooperative working relationships, and assigning team requirements in the field.
  • Performing maintenance and test procedures on RADAR Antennas that require climbing. Working under adverse environmental conditions, as necessary.
  • Supporting subject matter experts on a variety of assigned complex radar systems and associated equipment.

The applicant must demonstrate competency in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of a wide range of electronics and ground radar equipment operations, techniques, practices, repair, evaluation, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of moderate computer programming and use of various programs, spreadsheets, and database systems for data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of moderate statistical and mathematical modeling with application towards data analysis and evaluation of sensors.
  • Skill in analyzing and interpreting engineering drawings, bulletins, technical manuals, and specifications related to radar systems and associated equipment.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining good personal working relationships and works cooperatively as a member of various team compositions within and outside the organization.
  • Skill in writing papers and reports, presenting written and oral briefings, and formulating training courses.
  • Knowledge of long-range radar data collection and performance analyses.
  • Skill in determining capabilities and limitations of a long-range radar system with at least 6 years of experience in radar evaluations.
  • Ability to compile and analyze data related to radar equipment.
  • Ability to test and evaluate the capabilities of ground radar equipment, facilities, and special sensor systems.
  • Ability to identify operational deficiencies of ground radar equipment and sensor systems through various methods to include automated technologies, to recommend corrective action.
  • Knowledge of surveying methods, equipment, and techniques in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, and other features impacting the line of site for long-range radars.
  • Knowledge/experience in radar theory, maintenance operations, or related technical discipline or equivalent training/certification,
  • The selected applicant must be skilled in the use of RADES developed software to include RADES Software version 4 (RS4), Radar Coverage Prediction version 3 (RCP3), and Radar Site Database (RSDB) and DRAMS. 

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; with 4+ years working with a variety of complex radar systems and associated equipment with 1+ year performing radar evaluations.
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain USAF Tower Climbing Certification prior to climbing RADAR equipment.
  • An active DoD Secret clearance is required. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
