Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team. As our Maintenance Technician III, you will perform a variety of skilled maintenance tasks in the area of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, drywall, machine servicing, grounds keeping, sprinkler systems, HVAC, preventative maintenance, electrical services, mechanical equipment, and utility systems thoughout all the PITU facilities under the general direction of the Facilities Director. PITU facilities include all tribal buildings, grounds and recreational facilities located on or near the PITU reservation.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Thursday; 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM; 1 Hour Lunch (schedule is subject to change if special events occur

Job Functions:

include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Performs general building maintenance and custodial duties. 
  • Performs construction and all-around repairs. 
  • Patches walls and paints interiors and exteriors of building and other structures. 
  • Manages all grounds keeping in consultation with Facilities Director.  
  • Performs scheduled maintenance on all machinery and lawn equipment. 
  • Installs, moves, repairs, and removes equipment and utilities within the buildings and on grounds. 
  • Replaces light bulbs, changes ballasts, and performs circuit breaker identification and labeling. 
  • Performs installing, repairing, or replacing an assortment of equipment throughout the facilities. 
  • Performs in maintaining and replacing HVAC components and systems throughout the facilities. 
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance to ensure efficient operation of the equipment. 
  • Performs trouble shooting, diagnosis, and testing of equipment and makes necessary adjustments. 
  • Installs, repairs, or replaces plumbing fixtures, etc. 
  • Performs water well maintenance and operation. 
  • Assists in ensuring building security. 
  • Closes and secures tribal office and properties by locking doors, checking, and closing windows and doors and turning off lights. 
  • Assembles and installs all types of furniture and moves furniture and equipment. 
  • Arranges tables and chairs, sets-up and tears down gym floor covering. 
  • Turns sprinkler system on and off and maintains appropriate watering schedule. 
  • Checks out tables, chairs, and equipment to staff and/or others as needed and follows-up on their return. 
  • Assists with vehicle fleet maintenance. 
  • Always keeps a clean and safe working environment. 
  • Cuts and maintains grass, removes weeds and provides general upkeep of tribal grounds. 
  • Provides guidance and oversight to the management of custodians.  
  • Removes snow, sweeps, and washes sidewalks and keeps walkways free of debris. 
  • Picks up trash around the tribal grounds. 
  • Takes trash to the dump as needed. 
  • Notifies Facilities Director when major repairs are needed. 
  • Has access to the key fob system.  
  • Administers preventative Maintenance software. 
  • Fills in for other Maintenance staff as needed. 
  • Frequent travel required to different clinical sites 
  • Other duties as assigned to support the efficient operations of the Tribe. 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skilled in general repair methods and techniques. 
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and supplies. 
  • Knowledge of machinery and vehicle maintenance. 
  • Knowledge of servicing and operating heavy equipment. 
  • Ability to learn, understand and apply of S.D.S. standards. 
  • Ability to learn & perform the essential functions as outlined above. 
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions. 
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. 

Tools & Equipment Used:

  • Plumbing, Electrical and General Construction tools, Computer, telephone, copy machine and fax machine.

Work Environment:

  • The work is performed mostly in an outdoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is mild to loud.

Requirements

General Requirements:

  • Must be insurable through the Tribe’s vehicle insurance required.
  • Must pass a criminal and fingerprint background check according to P.L. 101-630 standards required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening required.
  • Must pass a physical examination prior to or contemopraneous with hiring.

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma, equivalent (GED) or higher preferred but not required.
  • Ten (10) years’ of experience in electrical required. 
  • Ten (10) years’ of experience in construction required. 
  • Five (5) years’ of experience in supervising projects required. 
  • Five (5) years’ of experience in plumbing, working toward a plumbing license required. 
  • Five (5) years’ experience in small engine and heavy-duty equipment repair and maintenance preferred. 
  • Four (4) years’ of automation and instrument required. 

License & Certification:

  • Must possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid Driver’s License required.
  • Must possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid Utah professional licensing in any technical trade (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) required. 
  • Must obtain, maintain, and provide proof of a valid First Aid and CPR Certification within three (3) months of hire required.
  • Must obtain, maintain and provide proof of a valid OSHA 10 Certification within three (3) months of hire required.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, walk, hear, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently lift, carry and/or move items up to 50-75pounds. Drive an automobile and operate machine/equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The Tribe reserves the right to require the employee to submit to and pass a physical examination prior to or during employment.
