Full Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a part-time Dental Hygienist! The Dental Hygienist treats and educates patients in the control and prevention or oral disease through proper oral hygiene and regular professional care within the appropriate score of practice across the lifespan under the general direction of the Dentist. position
Weekly Schedule:
Thursday & Fridays; 7:45 AM - 6:00 PM
Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
- Provides direct patient care by providing prophylaxis, fluoride treatment, sealants, patient education, perio examinations, perio scaling and root planning, application of desensitizing medication, oral cancer examination, provides local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide, and other procedures as directed by the Dentist.
- Provides treatment and education to patients with the goal of controlling and preventing oral health diseases such as caries and periodontal disease.
- Educates patients across the lifespan in all aspects of oral hygiene and treatment options for periodontal disease.
- Takes and records vital signs prior to treatment when necessary.
- Records diagnosis, procedural codes, treatment notes, and treatment plans in the patient chart.
- Updates patient information and charts as necessary, including input of data, radiographs, and scanning of documents.
- Assists receptionist in wait list calls and appointment reminders to patients during down time.
- Sterilizes and maintains instruments and supplies according to health center policy in addition to preparing operatory appropriately for each patient.
- Maintains equipment, including but not limited to oiling hand pieces, changing filters and traps, and reporting/resolving any equipment errors.
- Maintains knowledge of Blood borne pathogen standards and adherence to safety standards.
- Provides the Dentist and Dental Office Manager with patient feedback, needs, and requests.
- Acts as a liaison and representative by providing community oral health education and services to patients, schools, senior centers and other organizations as directed.
- May be assigned to participates in varies community outreach events such as health fairs, open houses, oral health screening days, etc. to increase awareness of services offered by the community health centers.
- Supports and promotes the Tribe’s wellness initiatives.
- Involves periodic traveling to fulfill job responsibilities.
- During downtime, make outgoing phone calls, insurance verifications, appointment reminders to patients. Organize the dental office supplies and cleaning as needed.
- Cleans and sanitizes waiting room, bathroom, exam rooms, office spaces, etc. as needed.
- Other duties as assigned to support the efficient operations of the Tribe.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and community.
- Ability to manage and perform with a high degree of autonomy, organization, and adaptability.
- Must be able to demonstrate respect for and awareness of Native American customs, traditions, and socioeconomic needs.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking with large and small groups of different managerial, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
- Must be willing to travel as needed.
Requirements
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be insurable through the Tribe’s vehicle insurance required.
- Must pass a criminal and fingerprint background check according to P.L. 101-630 standards required.
- Must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening required.
- Must pass the dental credentialing process required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited college or university required.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:
- Must possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid Driver’s License required.
- Must obtain/possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid Utah Dental Hygiene License prior to the start date required.
- Must obtain/possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid Utah Anesthesia License prior to the start date required.
- Must obtain/possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid First Aid and CPR certification within three (3) months of hire date required.
