About Academy of Visual and Performing Arts
Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a 6-12th grade, tuition-free public charter school for students in Fort Worth, Texas. Our mission is to provide a safe, challenging learning environment that cultivates our students’ academic and artistic excellence. We exist to ensure that all students are provided with equitable opportunities to Learn In The Arts and Learn Through The Arts.
Start Date: TBA- Based on need
Type: Full-time position. Work hours are generally 8:15 am - 4:45 pm.
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Assistant Principal - Culture, the core responsibilities of an Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Paraprofessional, at a minimum, include:
Instructional Support
- Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.
- Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
- Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication
- Communicate in a way that fosters collegiality and team building among staff members.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Participate in training programs, faculty meetings, an events, as required.
Other
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Compile and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
First and foremost, candidates must have an unwavering commitment to the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ mission and willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of AVPA students, families, and staff. Additionally, for this position, we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid educational aide certification (to be obtained if hired by AVPA)
- Some experience working with children (adolescent age range preferred)
- Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Successful criminal background check required

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution. The salary band for this role is $22,500 - $25,000. AVPA is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization. Because of this, we do not negotiate salary offers outside our salary bands.
