Job Summary: In this dynamic role, you'll join our expert team as a Commercial Lines Property and Casualty Underwriter, specializing in the multifamily sector. Your pivotal task involves meticulously evaluating insurance applications from diverse businesses seeking multifamily property and casualty coverage. You will play a key role in shaping our risk management strategy by determining the viability of these applications, setting appropriate coverage limits, and establishing fair premium rates. Your decision-making will be integral to either endorsing or rejecting insurance proposals, all while balancing risk and profitability.

 

Key Responsibilities: You will play a pivotal role in driving the profitable growth for Sertis by delivering underwriting excellence and cultivating strong relationships with our key broker partners. 

1.     Risk Assessment:

o  Conduct thorough assessments of insurance applications for commercial property and casualty coverage, specifically in the multifamily sector.

o  Analyze risk factors including, but not limited to, property values, potential liability, and historical loss data.

o  Formulate a comprehensive risk profile for each business applicant, leveraging your expertise in multifamily properties.

2.     Underwriting Excellence:

o  Strictly adhere to established underwriting guidelines and company policies.

o  Exercise discretion and seek referrals in scenarios deviating from standard guidelines.

o  Maintain compliance with all relevant regulatory standards and industry best practices.

3.     Data-Driven Decision Making:

o  Utilize advanced data analysis tools to interpret complex underwriting data.

o  Leverage historical data and current market trends to underpin your underwriting decisions.

4.     Effective Communication:

o  Engage in proactive communication with brokers, agents, and other stakeholders for comprehensive information gathering and clarification.

o  Articulate underwriting decisions and rationales clearly to all parties involved.

5.     Policy Administration:

o  Oversee the generation of insurance policies and accompanying documentation for approved applications.

o  Guarantee the precision and completeness of all issued policy documents.

o  Manage additional backend responsibilities including rating, quoting, binding, policy issuance, and endorsements, along with administrative oversight of accounts.

6.     Risk Mitigation Strategies:

o  Propose and advise on risk mitigation measures to enhance client insurability and minimize potential losses.

o  Collaborate with loss control specialists for effective risk management solutions.

7.     Portfolio Oversight:

o  Monitor and manage the risk portfolio to ensure a balanced, profitable book of business.

o  Identify and analyze trends that could influence portfolio performance.

 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications like CPCU, CIC are highly regarded.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in commercial lines property and casualty underwriting, with specific focus on multifamily properties.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and data analysis tools.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations and industry trends.
