As THA continues to expand its impact, We seek a highly skilled senior financial analyst with experience in the healthcare sector. The ideal incumbent is knowledgeable, analytical, collaborative, ethical, diligent, mission focused, and interested in growing into a management position within the next 12-18 months.
Reporting to the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, the Senior Financial Analyst plays a key role in the organization’s financial health through a focus on financial planning and analysis; stakeholder reporting; providing insights and recommendations; supporting processes and initiatives with operational and strategic impacts. In addition, the position will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing various healthcare revenue streams, including the 340B Pharmacy Program, and managing the organization’s position control system. The role will collaborate closely with senior leaders across the organization and provide mentorship and supervision to one or more junior analyst(s).
This is a full-time, exempt position. Remote work is allowed, but the incumbent must reside in the state of Texas and will be required to attend quarterly meetings and perform certain portions of its duties on-site at our administrative headquarters in Austin, Texas. Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Develop financial models and analyses to support forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning.
- Coordinate a collaborative annual budgetary process and provide support to budget managers and departmental leadership in the development of budgetary proposals in alignment with organizational goals.
- Conduct monthly and quarterly budget variance and revenue analyses providing meaningful insights into variances and financial performance trends.
Strategic Financial Support
- Prepare budgets and other financial data for grant and funding proposals. Integrate awards into the organizational budget and ensure that funding amounts and commitments are tracked.
- Advise on the evaluation or monitoring of strategic initiatives, new programs, partnerships, and operational improvements.
- Identify financial risks related to revenue, reimbursement, and collections, and work closely with senior leaders to develop strategies for risk mitigation.
- Interface regularly with senior leaders to ensure awareness of their units’ financial performance, including reasons behind variances and impact on the financial goals of the organization.
Financial Operations Support
- Support month- and year-end close by reviewing, or assisting with the preparation of, account reconciliation.
- Examine unusual trends or discrepancies that might indicate issues with GL transactions coding.
- Monitor internal controls and support compliance with all financial regulations and nonprofit reporting standards.
- Prepare documentation as needed for audits and reviews.
- Collaborate on the continuous improvement of processes and tools used in financial management and data analytics of the organization.
Supervision of Junior Analyst(s)
- Supervise and mentor junior analyst(s); provide guidance on financial analysis techniques, revenue analysis, and reporting standards. Encourage growth and development of skills and abilities.
- Define expectations and delegate work appropriately to ensure deadlines are met.
- Review and approve work product of junior analyst(s), verifying accuracy and quality in all analyses and reports.
Reporting and Data Analysis
- Design and maintain productivity reports using data from a variety of operational and administrative systems, ensuring appropriate benchmarks are identified and included for comparison.
- Delivers board-review ready financial and statistical summaries to executive leadership.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial and statistical reports for various stakeholders to meet decision making and regulatory reporting needs.
- Use data visualization tools to create clear and compelling dashboards and presentations which include monthly and quarterly financial performance reports and key performance indicators from across the organization.
Healthcare Revenue Management
- Coordinate the operations of the 340B Pharmacy Program.
- Formulate models to forecast healthcare revenue, considering trends in patient volume, reimbursement rates, and service mix.
- Provide insights into revenue cycle metrics, such as days in accounts receivable, collections ratio, and denial rates, working with operational teams to improve these metrics.
- Examine revenue data, reimbursement contracts, and payor mix to identify trends and opportunities for enhancing revenue capture.
Position Control and Workforce Budgeting
- Administer a position control system to track all organizational positions, including approved headcounts, vacancies, and budgeted salaries.
- Collaborate with HR and department leadership to ensure alignment between position control data, workforce planning, and financial forecasting.
- Create workforce-related financial models and scenarios to evaluate the impact of staffing decisions on organizational goals.
- Monitor and report on salary and benefits expenditures against the approved budget, identifying any variances and providing recommendations to address discrepancies.
Compensation:
Based on job duties and requirements, this position is placed in pay grade 47 with a full-time, annual salary range of $85,000 to $100,000 plus a performance incentive structure. The actual salary will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or strategic financial planning, preferably in a nonprofit healthcare environment.
- Extensive experience with healthcare revenue streams, including familiarity with the 340B Pharmacy Program, revenue cycle management, KPIs, and revenue integrity.
- Experience leading or mentoring junior team members
- Experience with budgeting process
- Experience working with diverse data sources and creating integrated financial and productivity reports.
Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of nonprofit financial statements, fund accounting, nonprofit reporting standards, grant administration, and financial compliance requirements.
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis capabilities.
- Expert proficiency in Excel and navigating modern accounting and ERP systems.
- Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong project management and process improvement skills.
- Thorough knowledge of healthcare industry financial operations, including common reimbursement models and productivity or profitability measures.
- Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- High level of ethics, integrity, and commitment to the mission of Texas Health Action and the communities it serves.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more certifications appropriate to the role (CMA, CHFP, etc)
- Familiarity with position control or workforce budgeting and analysis in healthcare a organization.
- Experience leading annual budgetary process and/or consolidating departmental budget information into the broader organizational budget.
