This role provides value added Risk Control consultative services for policyholders. Assist policyholders with identifying potential loss exposures, analyzing loss trend data, and collaborating on service activities to prevent future work-related incidents. The person in this role will work closely with the Underwriting, Marketing and Claims departments as well as our agency partners.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Provide value add risk control service to policyholders in assigned territory.
- Manage a book of accounts in an assigned territory coordinating risk control surveys with policyholders. This may include travel outside of regular territory to service complex, high hazard, or large accounts.
- Self-motivated, self-starter work from home-based office.
- Schedule and coordinate risk control surveys with policyholders utilizing time management skills to maximize efficient use of time.
- Utilize value based consultative approach to impact frequency and severity of losses.
- Conduct comprehensive loss trend analysis of prior loss activity with the ability to generate charts and graphs.
- Conduct walkthrough assessments of policyholders’ facilities and evaluate/prioritize hazards correctly and efficiently.
- Provide appropriate recommendations with buy in from policyholder and follow up on corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Provide ongoing value add services including Management Training, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Fleet Safety, and other advanced level service to impact profitability for policyholders and the Company.
- Collaborate with policyholders to develop custom service plans to focus on those service activities that will have the greatest impact in reducing losses.
- Write quality confirmation letters and reports that accurately reflect the operations, hazards, and safety/risk control mitigation efforts for both external and internal customers.
- Complete paperwork in a timely manner and maintain appropriate files and documentation.
- Collaborate with Underwriting and Marketing to build strategic partnerships with appointed agencies.
- Assist Risk Control Departmental with technical expertise, advice, and internal initiatives as needed.
- Assist the Risk Control Supervisor with any internal department needs.
- Interpersonal communication skills to speak effectively with varying levels of management and line personnel.
- Maintain all company property assigned including company vehicle and computer/associated equipment.
- Regular attendance and participation in department and company meetings is an essential function.
- Represent the Company in a professional manner by dressing appropriately and speak courteously.
- Provide specialized knowledge of safety and risk control to policyholders, underwriters, claims adjusters, marketing representatives and agents.
Requirements
- Previous insurance carrier, agency, or broker loss control experience preferred.
- Experience in Worker’s Compensation preferred.
- Knowledge of Texas Workers’ Compensation system preferred.
- Knowledge of value based consultative approach preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance carrier or agency operations preferred.
- Knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft computer software required.
- Bi-lingual Spanish speaking is preferred but not required.
- Planning, organizing, and completing deadlines.
- Work unsupervised, write reports timely, efficiently, and effectively.
- Work with individual policyholders to assist them in resolving their loss control issues. Ability to conduct comprehensive loss analysis and use this information to guide your service objectives and activities.
- Work effectively with all levels of management.
- Ability to make timely and effective decisions to promote both the interests of the policyholder, agent, and Company.
- Communication skills such as report writing, presentation creation, and delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere in actions and communications with peers, colleagues, and supervisors by conducting yourself in an open, honest, and civil way in your interactions with others.
- Apply reasonable standards in your tone and language.

- Bachelor’s degree preferred in safety, risk management, insurance, industrial engineering, or other closely related field.
- Professional designation such as CSP, CRM, ALCM, ARM preferred.
- Must have valid Texas driver’s license.
Travel
- Overnight travel may be required up to 10-25% per month.
