Full Job Description
Directly responsible for providing pre and postoperative care, comfort, privacy and education of the surgical patient in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assess, plan and evaluate the nursing care needs of surgical patients.
• Assess and monitor patient’s vital signs, airway, pain and condition and report abnormal findings to supervisor or physician.
• Recognize emergency situations and implement corrective action with emergency equipment
• Ability to implement principles of aseptic technique
• Administer medications
• Record and maintain all documentation in patient’s chart
• Provide verbal and written discharge instructions
• Assist with patient transfer to vehicle upon discharge from post-anesthesia care
• Recognizes and reports hazardous equipment
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas for peri-anesthesia patients
• Organize and prioritize assignments, duties and responsibilities
• Identify and implement effective problem solving techniques
• Display initiative, flexibility, adaptability, effective communication, positive interpersonal relationship skills and critical thinking/decision making skills
• Orient and mentor new staff members
• Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, moving, lifting patients and equipment up to 35 pounds

Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education:
1. Currently licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas and must be familiar with the basic nursing performance standards as outlined in the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
2. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
3. Certification in CPR and ACLS.
4. A minimum of three years experience as a Pre-Op/PACU nurse.
• Knowledge of Patient Rights.
• Knowledge of surgery center and nursing policies and procedures, and the functions of other departments within the surgery center.
• Knowledge of surgery center and departmental fire and safety regulations, electrical hazards, disaster plans and infection control policies.
• Knowledge of the care and treatment of the Pre-Op and PACU patient and nursing interventions.
• Knowledge of the potential emergencies related to the Post-Surgical/Post Anesthesia patient.
• Knowledge of EKG rate and rhythms and the treatment of dysrhythmias.
• Must be able to make independent decisions concerning patient care and treatments.
• Must be able to prioritize responsibilities to the patient and care for more than one patient at the same time.
• Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate the surgery and procedure room schedule.
• Must be able to work overtime hours.
Benefits
Benefits are only for full time employees which is 32 hours.
Vacation: 3 Weeks after 1 one year of employment. 4 weeks at year 4. Additional Paid time off on major holidays: New Years Eve and New Years Day. Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
