Full Job Description
Play, movement, and recreation are essential components of holistic growth for every child. In collaboration with Teneo Linguistics Company, the Children's Refugee Shelter is eager to welcome Recreation Coaches who understand the profound impact of play on the physical and emotional well-being of refugee children. In this role, you'll be designing and guiding recreational activities that go beyond mere play; you'll be igniting joy, fostering resilience, and building community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement a diverse range of recreational activities that cater to the varied interests and needs of the children.
- Ensure daily outdoor activities, weather permitting, including at least one hour dedicated to large muscle activities like sports, games, or fitness routines.
- Structure an additional hour daily for organized leisure time activities, excluding passive activities like watching television.
- Amplify recreational activities to a total of three hours on non-school days, ensuring a balance of physical and leisure activities.
- Monitor, guide, and participate actively in all recreational activities, ensuring the safety and engagement of all participants.
- Coordinate with other staff members, such as teachers and caregivers, to ensure that recreational activities complement and reinforce the children's overall developmental journey.
- Maintain and manage inventory of recreational equipment, ensuring they are in good condition and safe for use.
- Assess the recreational needs and preferences of the children, adjusting the activities as required.
- Foster an environment that values teamwork, respect, and fun, ensuring each child feels included and celebrated.
Requirements
- Degree or certification in Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or a related field.
- Previous experience in organizing and leading recreational activities or youth sports programs.
- Ability to design and implement activities suitable for children from diverse backgrounds with sensitivity to their unique experiences.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
- Bilingual proficiency, especially in Spanish, is an advantage.
