Unimacts, a leader in contract manufacturing for the renewable energy sector, is seeking a Quality Engineer (QE) to join its Conroe, TX Operations team. This state-of-the-art facility specializes in producing steel components for solar and wind OEM manufacturers, representing the pinnacle of manufacturing quality in the industry. Reporting directly to the Quality Manager, the QE will be a key player in maintaining and elevating our already-high standards. The role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, focusing on enhancing process efficiency and identifying and remedying issues that arise. The Quality Engineer will work closely with our Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure that we maintain our commitment to superior quality.

Job Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Direct quality technicians and coordinate work assignments within the department.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Prioritize work in consultation with other departments.
  • Part Inspection Standards: Develop criteria based on product specifications and process-critical requirements.
  • Nonconforming Material: Oversee the management of nonconforming materials and the Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Quality Metrics: Track internal metrics like First Pass Yield (FPY), scrap rates, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and PPM (Parts Per Million).
  • Customer PPAPs: Manage all aspects of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • APQP Involvement: Assist the Quality Manager with activities related to Advanced Product Quality Planning, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of new products.
  • Problem-Solving: Drive corrective and preventive actions, utilizing methodologies such as 8D (Eight Disciplines), Root Cause Analysis, 5-Why, and DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to quality systems like ISO 9001:2015 and other relevant standards.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science degree in Materials/Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering or a similar technical discipline.
  • Industry Experience: At least 5 (five) years of experience in a relevant engineering discipline within a manufacturing environment.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Experience in steel (metal) fabrication industry processes like bending, welding, and hot/cold roll forming is required.
  • QMS Expertise: A working understanding of Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001 or ISO/IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, and PFMEA.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Specific training and proven success in applying quality problem-solving methods including fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, DoE, and SPC.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in MS Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
