What You Will Be Doing:
We are seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Principal Process Controls Engineer at Amogy, where you will play a pivotal role in the design of process controls and optimization of chemical processes while also supporting controls system software development. In this multifaceted position, you will collaborate closely with process design, control software and other engineering teams to design and optimize Amogy’s powerpack system.
- Participate in the development of P&IDs, equipment specifications and process control logic.
- Review the sizing and selection of various types of instruments such as transmitters, control valves, relief valves, on/off valves and actuators.
- Create comprehensive control strategies, control narratives and functional design specifications.
- Develop control philosophy and system architecture for the Amogy’s powerpack system using state flow modeling while adhering to applicable codes and standards and applying best practices.
- Actively engage in control system design reviews to optimize and improve control strategies and system performance.
- Develop control strategies including model predictive controls (MPC), first principles model-based control, and feed forward control for process optimization.
- Participate in PHA/HAZID/HAZOP, constructibility, and operability /maintainability discussions.
- Develop specifications and oversee the design of PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems.
- Utilize programming languages such as structured text, ladder logic, function block diagrams and sequential function charts to develop and implement control software for DCS and/or PLC systems, ensuring compatibility and functionality across various platforms.
- Participate in development, functional testing and validation of Basic Process Control System and Safety Instrumented System software.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide timely technical reviews and inputs to complex control system designs.
Requirements
The minimum requirements we seek:
- BS in chemical engineering or related degree with 10-15 years of professional experience in developing chemical processes and associated control strategies.
- Experience in design of chemical processes including heat exchangers, combustors, reformers, heaters, air compressors etc.
- Experience in selecting and sizing sensors (pressure transducers, RTD sensors, flow meters, liquid level switches, etc.), and actuators (air compressor, solenoid valves, proportional valves, mass flow controller, etc.).
- Experience in developing control philosophies and system architectures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Extensive experience working with industrial control system communication protocols, e.g. Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 15+ years of professional experience in developing chemical processes and associated control strategies.
- Experience developing and simulating chemical processes using commercial software, such as ASPEN, thermolib, etc.
- Prior experience in leading the whole product/project cycle development including P&ID development, sizing/selection of mechanical components, electrical sensors, and actuators, system operational modes/procedures definition, system testing plan generation, and system field commissioning.
- Proficiency in developing and simulating systems using MATLAB, PLCs ladder logic, etc.
- Proficiency in developing and simulating nonlinear and coupled control systems for chemical processes using MATLAB, Stateflow, etc.
- Experience in programming languages such as C++, Python, Visual Basic, and ladder logic.
