Full Job Description
Under general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Physician/ Community Liaison is responsible for marketing, education and outreach of all hospital services to internal and external referral sources and promoting community awareness of the services offered at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. The Physician Liaison will be the main point of contact, facilitating open communication between the hospital, physician practices, and referral sources providing high-touch customer service, prompt issue resolution, and strategic planning activities designed to grow market share.

- Conducts strategic outreach initiatives to increase referral volumes and positive referring provider perceptions between internal and external referral sources.
- Establishes and maintains ongoing communication with referring providers and/or office staff, including routine or follow-up visits, emails, and phone calls. Develop and coordinate a schedule for reaching out to existing and prospective referral sources for both the hospital and HMH providers.
- Facilitates physician-to-physician meetings to establish and develop referral relationships and monitors referral outcomes.
- Delivers timely issue resolution between referral sources and the hospital and/or practices to maintain high customer satisfaction.
- Develops meaningful relationships with key contacts, including internal and external physician leadership, referring providers, nurse managers, office staff, etc.
- Promptly notifies Practice Administrator, Medical Director and/or Executive Team of any concerns or problems related to referral source satisfaction and works in partnership with that team to provide appropriate service recovery.
- Identifies existing and potential referral sources for each clinical service line, and/or practice.
- Develops tactical plan to promote provider engagement including new provider orientation, email communication, site visits, staff meetings, rounds, referral dinners & lunches, CMEs, and other communication methods.
- Collects and analyzes referral data and works with Executive Team to determine priorities for growing market share.
- Maintains outreach activity and performance outcome reports related to volume trends for practices and hospital services.
- Tracks outreach activity to accurately document frequency of visits, reported issues and outcomes.
- Provides market intelligence to organizational leadership, identifying potential opportunities and/or competitor changes in the local healthcare landscape as needed, at least quarterly.
- Provides insight to leadership for improved processes related to referral capture or opportunities to increase market share as needed, at least quarterly.
- Plans, organizes and conducts community education for health care professionals, community civic leaders and members of the public, such as: health fairs, wellness checks, and care giver support groups.
- Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
- Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Associates degree with requisite experience may be considered.
Experience: Two years of relevant healthcare experience required. Prior medical staff services experience preferred
License/Certification: None required.
Required Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, personal work ethic and high degree of personal integrity. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple projects and tasks, with attention to detail. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with executives, physicians, staff and the public. Proficiency in basic medical terminology and hospital operations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, carrying & reaching.
Occasional: lifting, bending, & squatting,
Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
