Full Job Description
Piping Technology is seeking to hire a full-stack .NET Software Developer. The developer will create impact in our business by building and improving our in-house software that serves as the backbone of our sales and manufacturing processes.
What we have: a wide variety of custom built software with the majority of the codebase in ASP.NET with C# code behinds and an MS SQL back-end. There’s also a Visual Basic 6 app that, thankfully, doesn’t have to be changed too often.
What we lack and are looking for you to bring to our team: software engineering capacity to drive greater velocity, modern front-end development, database administration and optimization, more advanced reporting and data visualization.
Background:
Piping Technology & Products is a rapidly growing 600-person American manufacturing company that makes and supplies specialty piping products to customers around the world.
We are adding another software engineer to our in-house software development team to increase our velocity. Our in-house sales & manufacturing software is used by 300+ of the company’s employees and enables the majority of the company’s operations from quotation to sales to engineering to manufacturing to shipping.
Our vision is to provide a one-of-a-kind technology-enabled customer experience that delights customers and drives growth in our business through retention and expansion. “Delight” will take the form of customers having unparalleled real-time trackability and visibility into our manufacturing operation and the company delivering its products faster and higher quality because of superior materials management and scheduling capabilities.
Today our software is only used in-house, but our goal is to spin our in-house technology team out as a SaaS software company and sell the product to other manufacturing companies.
The company's new CEO (who also acts as its product manager) is an entrepreneur who has deep experience in software both as a founder and as an investor. As a founder, he started Snap Stream, the technology behind clips at the Daily Show and Late Show with Stephen Colbert. As an investor, he has written checks into over 50 early stage software companies.
You will build and improve software at the company, talking to users to understand their workflows and problems (“The Mom Test” is our north star on how we conduct research with users) and then working with your colleagues on the software development team to design and implement solutions.
The day-to-day work of the job is part technical support and customer service, though there is an IT team that provides first level support, helping users with problems and explaining how things work. Troubleshooting and figuring things out is an important part of the work– for many issues, there won’t be anyone else in-house to ask. There is an important VB6 applications to support and it’s difficult to work with. There will be interactions with many people from users on the shop floor to department heads.
There are so many opportunities to make an impact as a software developer at the company. We build in-house tools and, then, get direct feedback from users and that is a satisfying loop.
