We are currently seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician for our day shift who is ready to make a meaningful impact. You will play a crucial role in conducting laboratory tests essential for the diagnosis and treatment of patients, ensuring accurate and timely results that help shape their care. Shift: Four (4) 10-hour days and rotating weekends.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine venipunctures with precision, ensuring patient comfort and adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Accurately collect and label specimens, maintaining proper identification and documentation throughout the process.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis of various body fluids using both manual and automated methodologies.
- Analyze blood cells and perform morphology studies, blood group typing, and compatibility testing.
- Execute microbiology tests in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and interpret test results, promptly communicating any abnormal findings or critical results to healthcare providers.
- Coordinate specimen outsourcing to reference laboratories when necessary.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments, ensuring they operate optimally for precise results.
- Adhere to all state and federal regulations related to laboratory procedures and ensure compliance with established safety protocols.
- Keep accurate records of test results, instrument maintenance logs, and supplies inventory.
- Contribute to a clean and organized laboratory environment by assisting with cleaning, restocking, and performing other assigned tasks.
- Stay current with advances in laboratory practices and participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Yoakum Community Hospital as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree (AA) in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field from an accredited college or technical school.
- Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through a recognized certifying agency.
- Current registration with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in laboratory testing.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare team members.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
