THIS IS A MOSTLY-REMOTE POSITION WITH SOME TRAVEL.
In its majority, work will be performed remotely, from the employee's place of residence. Pre-planned travel to Amarillo, Texas, for on-site interaction, support, and training will be required up to 15% of the time.
Compensation Range: $130,000 - $145,000 / Year
Global Engineering and Technology (GET) is seeking qualified applicants Linux systems administration background for the position of Linux Systems Administrator to join our mission as part of a cybersecurity team supporting a national security site belonging to the United States Department of Energy (DOE). This is a highly compensated, high-responsibility technical guidance position that is central to our mission's success. This is a full-time position as a GET employee with paid leave and benefits.
The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for standing up and administrating two high-performance computing clusters at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. This will include installing an operating system based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux as well as the necessary networking required to have the corresponding systems be accessible over the enterprise unclassified and classified networks. The operating system will need to be configured to meet various Pantex and DOE/DoD requirements. A variety of national-lab made software packages will need to be installed on the systems and validated.
- Work will begin with the standing up two machines, with the classified machine requiring more work earlier on. The unclassified machine will require installing a new OS and configuring it, which will be more intensive.
- Cluster experience is preferred. Lacking experience with working on high performance clusters, the employee will be expected to travel to DAS to converse with their cluster experts.
- The System Administrator installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware, software, and administers system accounts.
In its majority, work will be performed remotely, from the employee's place of residence. Pre-planned, paid travel to Amarillo, Texas, for on-site interaction, support, and training will be required as needed (average of 85% remote / 15% travel).
Requirements
Security Clearance:
This position requires a current DOE Q or DoD Top Secret security clearance.
Education & Experience:
Associate's degree in a technical field and 8 to 10 years of related experience
OR
Bachelor's degree in a related technical field and 5 years of related experience
NOTE:
This position requires a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a Linux Systems Administrator supporting operations in a classified environment.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities (as demonstrated by technical expertise and certification):
- MUST have extensive experience with Red Hat Linux Server administration
- Understanding and using essential tools for handling files, directories, and command-line environments.
- Operations documentation/runbooks
- Operating running systems, including booting into different run levels, identifying processes, and controlling services
- Configuring local storage using partitions and logical volumes RAID configuration/maintenance
- Creating and configuring files systems and file system attributes, such as permissions, encryption, access control lists, and network file systems.
- Deploying, configuring, and maintaining systems, including, software installation and updating
- Managing of users and groups
- Managing security and basic firewall configurations.
- Parallel and multiprocessing programming interfaces
- High Performance Computing cluster schedulers and resource managers
- Strong scripting skills in Shell and/or Python
Highly sought-after skills:
- Experience with working on high performance clusters
