Full Job Description

Coordinates and supervises all technical operations of the Laboratory Department; as well as establishes and maintains appropriate quality Improvement program and documentation.
Establishes service priorities, work routines, and work-flow patterns. Monitors work-flow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services and periodically checks validity and accuracy of test results to ensure quality control.
Maintains Departmental policy and procedure manual and reference materials to facilitate up-to-date operations.
Maintains Departmental procedures to ensure compliance with CLIA standards.
Directs purchase and proper storage of supplies.
Must be able to demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served; must be able to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs; must demonstrate a knowledge of growth and development, and an understanding of the range of treatments needed by those patients to include infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Maintain records pertaining to tests performed and chart test results to ensure that variations in test results and standards are within acceptable quality control ranges, and monitors maintenance schedule of all Laboratory equipment.
Analyze results of testing; interprets abnormal and unusual results, and checks accuracy of such results. Records and reports testing results and immediately calls critical values to appropriate patient care personnel.
Assures compliance by staff with established policies and procedures, professional standards and practices, and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
Performs routine venipunctures, drawing blood from patient while observing principles of asepsis to obtain the blood samples.
Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, using manual procedures and/or automated analyzers.
Assists and assigns workers to duties and oversees performance of tests in fields of bacteriology, chemistry, hematology, and serology.
Oversees Blood Bank operations, maintains an adequate supply of various type of blood and blood products, and is able to perform all Blood Bank procedures.
Cultivates, isolates, and assists in identifying bacterial and other micro-organisms in body specimens and performs related tests and procedures.
Performs chemical tests on body fluids and exudates and performs antibody susceptibility testing.
Examines graph tracings made by machine analyzers to locate or plot test values.
Performs blood tests and studies morphology of constituents of blood and red blood cells.
Interprets normal and abnormal morphology.
Maintains monthly continuing education articles.
Performs routine serological tests on body fluids and materials such as blood, exudates, scrapings, and spinal fluids.
Assures all tasks performed are in compliance with related State and Federal guidelines, rules and regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Medical Technology from four-year college or university and/or MT ASCP or AMT registered or eligible;
- Three to five years related experience and/or training;
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be certified Medical Technologist.
- Must be registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technolohgists (AMT) or equivalent or eligible.
