Full Job Description
Tapcheck is seeking a strategic and experienced product leader to lead our card product initiatives. This role will own the comprehensive card strategy and be accountable for both the long-term strategy and the immediate execution of Tapcheck’s card implementations. Our goal is to provide the right payment instrument product to the right customer at the right time and support them as they progress in their financial wellness journey. Our current priority is satisfying the payment instrument card scenarios for the “unbanked” and ”under-banked” consumer segments. This role will also plan for future debit and credit card products, including credit builder and rewards cards, to meet the diverse needs of our customers at all levels of employment and financial literacy. The ideal candidate for this role has deep experience and executional success in the debit and credit payment industry, as well as direct experience standing up a new business unit from scratch.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive card product strategy tailored for debit and credit payment instruments, focusing on driving adoption and engagement among unbanked and underbanked customers while aligning with Tapcheck’s business goals.
- Oversee the entire product lifecycle for card products, managing card design, production, activation processes, and ongoing cardholder support to ensure high-quality execution specific to the payments industry.
- Create detailed product requirements, prioritize features based on card network rules (e.g., Visa, MasterCard) and industry best practices, and make trade-off decisions considering customer needs, regulatory constraints, and business objectives.
- Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis, focusing on trends such as contactless payments, mobile wallet integrations, and digital card issuance to inform and adjust product strategy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, marketing, and finance, to ensure cohesive and integrated development and launch of card products.
- Ability to effectively communicate and articulate product vision to executive leadership, ensuring alignment with strategic goals that fosters a shared understanding of product direction.
- Develop and execute go-to-market strategies with targeted product positioning and messaging, highlighting unique card features such as rewards programs, cashback offers, and fraud protection.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including card networks, processors, and regulatory bodies, to ensure product priorities align with industry standards and compliance requirements, facilitating regular updates and reviews.
- Establish and track KPIs relevant to the card payments industry, focusing on metrics like card activation rates, transaction volumes, customer acquisition costs, and retention rates to drive continuous product improvement.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency by implementing robust KYC and KYB processes, maintaining PCI DSS compliance, and adhering to relevant financial regulations, with regular reviews to mitigate risks.
- Manage partnerships with card issuers like Marqeta, navigating challenges such as card issuance speed, payment gateway integration, and handling chargebacks, ensuring these partnerships support Tapcheck’s operational and compliance needs.
What You’ll Bring
- You have launched a new business from scratch, demonstrating ability to navigate the regulatory requirements of that new business/industry and the market growth expectations in a successful GTM motion soup to nuts. The new business-line products you have built are within the checking and savings account, prepaid, direct deposit, debit and/or payroll card domains.
- You have extensive product management experience with 8+ years in the card, banking, and payments industries, specifically in debit and credit card products, payment processing systems, and financial services.
- A strong educational background with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field; an MBA is preferred.
- Deep understanding of payments industry trends, consumer behavior, and the regulatory landscape, including PCI DSS, AML, KYC, and KYB regulations, serving as an internal subject matter expert.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences, including engineers, executives, and external stakeholders.
- An analytical mindset with proficiency in data-driven decision making, using OKRs and KPIs to guide product development and measure success.
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of managing cross-functional teams, particularly in leading “Mission Teams” that include engineering, marketing, sales, customer service, and product.
- Familiarity with modern product management tools and methodologies, such as Atlassian, DevOps, Amplitude, and Omni.
- Expertise in market research and competitive analysis within the card payments industry.
- Proven ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders such as card issuers, payment processors, and regulatory bodies.
- A proactive approach to staying current with emerging technologies and trends in the payments industry, integrating best practices into product development.
