Full Job Description

The Peer Recovery Support Staff are responsible for the creation, implementation and teaching of all material for the client recovery group sessions. They are also responsible for the associated documentation; they also provide direct patient care to all clients; support therapeutic setting; and ensure safety and well-being of patients. 

Requirements

  • Create weekly lesson plans to be used in group sessions. Lesson plans must be approved by the Clinical Director.
  • Research, propose and monitor in depth weekly studies of different forms of recovery (12 Step, NA, Smart Recovery, Dharma Recovery, 12&12). Clients complete the studies during the week and the group facilitator reviews the clients work upon completion.
  • Research, propose and monitor Recovery Support Meetings. This includes contacting local resources to facilitate on site or online meetings. Train RSS staff to help direct the meetings as needed.
  • Set up H&I and speaker meetings
  • Lead Health and Wellness activities focused on recovery support
  • Implement and facilitate a structured Study Hall program
  • Facilitate either men or women’s group meetings
  • Support RSS in responsibilities as needed to support program and coverage requirements
  • Monitors and assists clients, working under the direction of clinical staff including areas of daily living, group facilitation and health and wellness activities.
  • Record and maintain client information, such as vital signs, eating and sleeping habits, behavior, and daily observation notes.
  • Provide engagement and support to foster a therapeutic environment for clients
  • Lead and accompany clients to and from activities, meals and treatment activities as assigned.
  • Assists clients in becoming accustomed to daily routines and encourages them to participate in social and recreational activities to promote recovery.
  • Utilize nonviolent crisis interventions to deescalate situations of client distress. 
  • Provide adequate supervision to ensure client safety
  • Promptly reports client issues to the clinical and medical team. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by professional staff.

Education and/or Licensure – LCDC or LCDC-I license required. Must possess or obtain a valid CPR certification and CPI training within 30 days of hire.

Experience – Strong leadership and teaching skills.Experience planning and facilitating group meetings. Experience with SUD RTC program a plus

  • Must be able to concentrate on work amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic; must be able to consistently meet deadlines; must be flexible in work hours in order to meet client and organization operating needs.
  • Must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile customer services interactions.
  • High school level reading and writing skills; acceptable oral and written communication skills along with legible handwriting.
  • Customer service skills in face-to-face interactions with dealing courteously with clients, the public, and other staff within the organization.
  • Use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for clients and staff; empathy toward clients; skills in teaching or assisting with activities of daily living helpful.
  • Must be able to work independently, in a result restricted physical environment for extended periods of time.
  • Skill to research, plan and implement group meeting lesson plans
  • Skill to manage small groups covering a variety of recovery support topics
  • Skill to independently interpret reference materials to comply with law, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Ability to apply time management practices to prioritize, schedule and complete work effectively to comply with mandated policies and deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks or parts of tasks simultaneously to ensure timely completion of work activities.
  • Detoxification proficiency:  identify signs of withdrawal; understand observation and monitoring procedures; understand pregnancy related complications; understand appropriate interventions; identify side effects of frequently used medications.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

Perform the following with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. 
  • Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly.
  • Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information orally and make fine discriminations in sound. 
  • Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Individual must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. 
  • Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks, as well as inspect and analyze.
  • Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another
  • While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside.
