Full Job Description

Under general supervision of the Director, the Facilities Supervisor coordinates and exercises functional responsibility for the Facilities department.  Supports the team in the implementation of short and long-term projects and directs hospital maintenance staff in repairs, preventive maintenance and emergency system and equipment failures restoration related to maintaining peak operations of the hospital.

  1. Demonstrates mastery of: repair and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems and associated components, response to building system casualties immediate restoration of services, trouble shooting and repair of VAV and CAV controls, humidity controls, & scheduled preventative maintenance of the Air Handling Units.
  2. Performs periodic maintenance and repair of refrigerant units and chilled water systems.
  3.  Operates building automation systems, repair pneumatic and digital controls.
  4. Manages the day to day operations of the Facilities department and supervision of staff.
  5. Directs staff in repairs, preventive maintenance, grounds maintenance and emergency system and equipment failures restoration related to maintaining peak operations of the hospital.
  6. Works closely with all hospital departments and when applicable physicians, patients, visitors in the execution of their duties in providing quality care.
  7. Participates in monitoring and managing events that affect the daily operation of the department such as, but not limited to, updating preventive maintenance programs, monitoring work order flow and completion.
  8. Manages day to day unscheduled work orders, backlogs, scheduled work orders and equipment break-downs utilizing available staff, while maintaining customer satisfaction based on feedback for work order status. 
  9. Builds and maintains data for systems and procedures in Word and Excel forms, provides input on employee performance management, parts and service purchase order systems, peer interviewing, pre/post construction project input and quality standards, incumbent/new employee training and personnel scheduling.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital regulatory codes, equipment, mechanical trades and construction industry information as it relates to position responsibilities.
  11. Promotes safety and infection control programs and is safety conscience.  Keeps abreast of current infection control practices and procedures and be able to effectively train the department personnel in these programs as well.
  12. May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines. Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations and to be in the on-call rotation.
  13. Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
  14. Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement, and desired client-centered outcomes.
  15. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, competence validation; supports department-based goals which contributed to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  16. Actively participates in survey readiness activities and assures that department is compliant with all regulatory standards.
  17. Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  18. Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  19. Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
  20. Performs other related duties as assigned.

All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED required.  Vocational or Technical training preferred.

Experience: Three years related experience preferred, at least one in healthcare setting.

Licensure/Certification: Current, valid driver’s license required.  HVAC certification preferred.

Required Skills: Ability to read and understand blueprints, equipment schematics and technical documentation.

Mastery of computer applications including e-mail, building automation systems, computerized maintenance management systems, fire alarm systems, etc.  Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.
