Full Job Description

Coordinates activities related to youth equine, to include all youth program rides that coincides with our Model of Leadership and Services. Coordinates care of all assigned animals, equipment and stables and rodeo grounds facilities.  Coordinates activities related to the rodeo programs, to include assisting with the Boys Ranch and Tri-State Rodeos.  Coordinates Honor Patrol activities and vocational education.  In collaboration and coordination with the Youth Programs and Recreational Department, designs and implements programs as needed.

1.    Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.

2.    In collaboration with other equine professionals, responsible for executing and ensuring our method of training horses coincides with our Model of Leadership and Service as well as our overall program philosophy.

3.    In collaboration with other equine professionals, responsible for maintaining the usefulness and sustainability of the general riding herd by ensuring the horses are regularly ridden by experienced riders and retrained as needed.

4.    Responsible for the training of horses to be utilized in our general riding program.  The majority of which need to be at a beginner to intermediate riding level. 

5.    In collaboration with other equine professional, assists with the maintenance and operation of the recreational riding horse program.  Maintains an adequate number of appropriate general riding stock, training stock, and tack for residents’ recreational needs.

6.    Assists with devising, implementing, and monitoring a riding herd strategic plan in order to maintain consistency and an appropriate number of useable riding horses based on current need.  This plan should include estimated numbers needed to maintain the current herd as well as projected exit numbers, training numbers, and future entry numbers.

7.    Responsible for oversight of all safety aspects of the equine programs for youth to include education and training, routine inspection of facilities, grounds, and equipment and required reporting activities.

8.    Responsible for supervision of the recreational riding program.  Ensures that assigned horses are provided with proper feed, grooming, and medical care. Ensures that the stables are clean, organized, safe and operational.

9.    Provides training and direction for residents and others participating in equine related programs.

10. Assists in maintaining records on animal inventory, animal classification, and birth/death/sale of animals, supply inventory, and related documentation as assigned.

11. Oversees the logistics and transportation of horses to special events and other activities.

12. Documents and communicates residents’ participation and progress to the appropriate childcare staff.

13. Responsible for inventory control oversight of related supplies and equipment.  Ensures that all equipment assigned is properly utilized and maintained.

14. Assists with maintenance regarding appearance of facilities and grounds from rodeo bleachers to Bodock areas.

15. Assists with the FFA equestrian education programs.

16. Responsible for all assisting with the rodeo program, either rough stock or equine events. 

17. Assists with coordinating the Rodeo programs with the Administrator, Campus Operations Directorate and serves as the main point of contact for the all Rodeo programs.

18. Responsible for all safety aspects of the rodeo programs for youth to include education and training, routine inspection of facilities, grounds, and equipment and required reporting activities.

19. Assists with management the Boys Ranch annual Rodeo.  Assures coordination and communication with other organizational departments and outside entities as needed.

20. In collaboration and coordination with the Fund Development Staff, is active in public relations and promotion of the annual Boys Ranch rodeo.

Assist with coordinating the Tri-State Rodeo activities and is responsible for co-management of the Tri-State rodeo held at Boys Ranch.

21. Ensures that assigned horses and rodeo stock are provided with proper feed, grooming, and medical care. Ensures that the stables are clean, organized, safe and operational.

22. Provides training and direction for residents and others participating in equine related programs.

23. Coordinates and supervises honor patrol activities for parades, rodeos and other special events.  Coordinates these activities with Youth Program
 staff and other appropriate departments as needed.

24. Co-manages inventory control of related supplies and equipment.  Ensures that all equipment assigned is properly utilized and maintained.

25. Maintains appearance of facilities and grounds around the rodeo facilities to include rodeo arena, holding pens, tack barns and river pasture/fencing.

26. In collaboration and coordination with the Youth Programs and Recreational Department, designs and implements programs as needed to include resident hunting.

Requirements

1.   High school or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Education, or a related field is preferred.

2.    A minimum of 5 years’ experience in equine activities and operations is required and can be substituted for a degree.

3.    A minimum of 3 years’ experience in working with youth and oversight is preferred.

4.    Proficiency in farm and ranch equipment operation is required.

5.    Must possess exceptional time management and detail-orientation skills.

6.    Proficiency in Microsoft Office for Windows applications (word processing, database, spreadsheet, e-mail, presentation graphics, etc.) is required.

7.    Proficiency in general office equipment operation is required.

8.    Must reside on campus in housing provided.

9.    Must be at least 21 years of age.

10. Bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, prolonged sitting/standing.

11. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.

12. Must be available for travel as needed.
