This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Full-Time Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) who will be all-in on our mission and who will plan, manage, direct, supervise, oversee, and coordinate activities in the Center for Teaching and Learning. This position oversees the development, coordination, and implementation of faculty professional development, instructional design, instructional technology, and Blackboard. This position also provides leadership for creating and enhancing a college culture of student success by addressing the spectrum of inside-the-classroom instructional support services and interventions for student retention and completion.

EDUCATION

Required: Master’s Degree in an education-related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Three (3) years of experience in education.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of The Center for Teaching and Learning.
  • Prepare reports, plan, and analyze to document and advance the Center’s activities, initiatives, and development.
  • Manage and supervise all personnel in The Center for Teaching and Learning.
  • Lead and coordinate support of online education, faculty learning communities and provide faculty consultation.
  • Research and evaluate emerging learning technologies as they apply to instruction, participate in strategic planning, recommend and promote best practices for teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate and collaborate to create professional development sessions aimed to increase student learning through advanced teaching practices in online and face-to-face learning environments.
  • Provide training and consultations to faculty, students, and staff for LMS and academic technology training to provide recommendations to the chief academic officer for program and course improvements.
  • Develop budgets for the center and complete budget requests.   
  • Facilitate the resolution of disputes and conflicts among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develop long range staffing plans aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Perform periodic evaluations of faculty and staff aligned with the strategic plan and AC mission and values.
  • Participate in college-wide strategic planning activities.
  • Implement strategic goals related to institutional priorities by leveraging resources and working across functional areas.
  • Develop and review college policies that address the needs of students and programs in the department. 
  • Oversee hiring and onboarding of all personnel in The Center for Teaching and Learning.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and varied backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff members.
  • Proficient working knowledge of information technology used in academia as well as internet applications and PC-based software, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, students.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of the administrative team to realize the College’s vision, mission, goals, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of innovation and advancement in student development and retention programs and services and ability to lead such change.
  • Knowledge of student success model and completion theories to increase student success.
  • Knowledge of theories related to best practices when working with community college students to include dual enrollment students, non-traditional students and low income and first-generation students.
  • Knowledge of continuing education and workforce development standards, guidelines, and requirements.
  • Strategic planning, leadership, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with community organizations, businesses, college staff, and the public.
  • Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change.
  • Ability to implement a data-driven approach to success initiatives.
  • Ability to foster collaboration among various units which support effective teaching and learning on campus through a variety of instructional modalities.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), Pay grade 15 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
