Full Job Description

Under general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the financial reporting of the hospital in accordance with GAAP. Oversight of internal controls for general accounting, payroll and compliance reporting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    1. Develop and implement financial systems, processes, controls and procedures for accounting functions.
    2. Provide financial information to operating management in a routine and timely manner.
    3. Monitor daily deposits and reconcile with G / L posting to assure accuracy of daily reporting and facilitates month end processing and reconciliation.
    4. Direct activities of the accounting department as they pertain to the preparation of monthly financial statements and month end close.
    5. Prepare and present variance explanation.
    6. Coordinate the budge process and assist in preparation.
    7. Monitor the expenditures of the facility to maintain compliance with the budget
    8. Preparation of required government reporting.
    9. Audit coordination.
    10. Directs and maintains effective internal controls to ensure the reliability and accuracy of financial statements.
    11. Ensures integration of the department into the primary functions of the organization.  Creates a collaborative, productive work environment through positive relationships with senior leadership, other directors, physicians, employees, patients/families and the community.
    12. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    13. Plans and provides a sufficient number of qualified and competent staff for the unit.
    14. Ensures completion of all employee records including but not limited to: payroll, performance evaluations, competencies, personnel action requests etc.
    15. Provides 24 hour accountability of leadership by appropriate delegation, using sound decision making and critical thinking skills.
    16. Functions competently in the staff role as necessary.
    17. Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
    18. Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
    19. Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
    20. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

    LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS

    All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members.  Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required.

    Experience: Five years of hospital accounting experience required.

    License/Certification: None required. 

    Required Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, personal work ethic and high degree of personal integrity.  Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple projects and tasks, with attention to detail.  Proficient in Microsoft Excel.  Detailed oriented in analyzing data and spreadsheets.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Frequent: sitting, standing, walking & reaching.

    Occasional: lifting, carrying, bending, & squatting,

    Visual and hearing acuity required.  Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.

    Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
