Full Job Description

This Full-Time Director of Quality Management position is located at our ContinueCARE Hospital at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, TX. ContinueCARE Hospital at Hendrick Medical Center is a 23-bed long term acute care hospital (LTACH) located on the seventh floor of the Jones Building at Hendrick Medical Center. A typical LTACH patient may require care for: ventilator weaning, complex wounds, infections requiring IV antibiotics, complications from extensive surgery, multi-system failures, TPN, neurological / traumatic injuries, and those not yet able to participate in acute rehabilitation due to medical complexity.

Under the direct supervision of the LTACH CEO/CNO, the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) is responsible for oversight and hands on leadership for the delivery of comprehensive effective quality healthcare by assuring clinical workflows, patient satisfaction, clinical competencies and daily operations are optimized to meet the complex needs of patients while operating under the ANA Standards of Practice. The ACNO works with clinical staff and hospital leaders to improve clinical quality, provide statistical data, benchmarks, training and strategies based on state and federal standards/reporting requirements.

As a key member of our leadership team the ACNO will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our organization by overseeing nursing operations, driving quality initiatives, and fostering a positive work environment. Along with the CEO/CNO, sets clear, consistent goals and expectations. Holds self and others accountable for decisions and actions. Demands high performance. Is reliable, keeps commitments, and delivers results. Creates an ownership culture.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in providing leadership to nurse employees that will enroll their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate in decisions that impact the hospital
  • Assist the CNO in maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations to ensure survey readiness at all times.
  • Partnering with physicians who use, or will use the hospital
  • Creating an environment that will encourage recruiting and retention of clinical employees
  • Assisting the CNO in managing costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs
  • Assisting the CNO in establishing standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for clinical services
  • Implementing patient care programs, policies, and procedures that describe how care is assessed, delivered and evaluated
  • Assisting the CNO in determining staffing requirements and ensures the availability of adequate numbers of competent staff that are properly credentialed, educated, trained, motivated and engaged.
  • Assists the CNO with performance management including policies/practices for providing timely feedback, recognizing excellence and dealing with problem behavior and poor performance.
  • Accurately assesses staff developmental needs and provides frequent feedback, coaching and development opportunities. Identifies continuing education needs of clinical, leadership and support personnel.
  • Planning and providing care that prevents complications, promotes improvement and is delivered in a safe environment
  • Establishes Performance Improvement Teams based on prioritization of improvement opportunities and communicates performance activities and finding to all pertinent Hospital and Leadership Staff, Medical Staff, and the Board of Directors, as appropriate and delegated by the CNO.
  • Serves as the Risk Manager for the hospital.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting of CMS and NHSN quality data.
  • As delegated by the CNO, represents clinical services at Hospital and Host meetings
  • Customer Satisfaction: Demonstrates an active commitment to providing excellent customer service. Strives to meet or exceed patient expectations/satisfaction in the performance of job functions.

Other General and Related Duties

  • Supports and applies CHC’s core values of Respect, Integrity, Stewardship and Excellence in the performance of job functions.
  • Supports CHC goals. Complies with CHC policies and procedures as they relate to the performance of job functions.
  • Retains all nursing related hospital accreditations, licensures and designations in good standing.
  • Maintains compliance with all laws and applicable regulatory requirements. Acts promptly to comply with required changes. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of CMS and NHSN quality data.
  • In the absence of the CEO/CNO, takes responsibility for nursing services. When committees need input from the CEO and CNO acts as the clinical designee in the decision making process.

Requirements

Education And Experience

Must possess and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of assigned hospital’s location. Bachelor of Science Degree in a nursing from an accredited institution.

Master’s degree preferred.

A minimum two years of demonstrated successful leadership in an acute-care hospital environment with a strong background in medsurge and critical Care. LTACH experience preferred.

Must possess knowledge of hospital nursing operations.
