Job Summary
The Distribution Center Coordinator (DCC) is responsible for assisting in the management and development of the distribution center and works in collaboration with other departments to ensure that Hamilton Kent properly responds to the needs of our customers.
The Distribution Center Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and preparation of all outgoing shipments and ensuring order accuracy while maintaining good customer service, assisting in directing the storage and handling of products and inventories, and ensuring proper documentation of all incoming, outgoing, and warehoused material. The DCC is also responsible for ensuring that all Health, Safety, and C-TPAT policies are followed.
Principal Responsibilities:
· Supervise the Distribution Operations according to the existing service and quality standards defined by Hamilton Kent and develop the DC team in a way that ensures team cohesion and effectiveness in offering prompt and accurate customer service;
· Responsible for leading and implementing Lean and 5S projects through to completion;
· Develop, promote and manage the different aspects of Health & Safety, as well as Human Resources;
· Actively involved in the implementation of SAP;
· Assist in the development of the operating budget and, once approved, manage it;
· Use Continuous Improvement principles to make operations more efficient while improving customer service. This is accomplished by using Lean Principles, Problem Solving, 5S Programs, etc.;
· Ensure that the DC follows all internal practices such as, but not limited to, the TMS, C-TPAT program, company standards, etc.;
· Ensure proper training of employees according to internal standards and provincial/state laws and regulations specific to our industry;
· Coordinate repairs and purchases for the DC in collaboration with the Purchasing Manager and/or Operations Maintenance Manager;
· This is a working management position that requires performing all daily operational activities. These include, but are not limited to, receiving, stocking, cycle counts, picking, packing & loading.
Health, Safety, And Environmental Responsibilities And Accountabilities:
Safety is our priority. This holds true in the office and in the manufacturing/distribution environment. It is incumbent upon the Buyer to ensure they themselves, are following all appropriate safety guidelines. This responsibility extends to include typical OSHA requirements, physical PPE, as well as the additional COVID-19 restrictions that may be in place.
Knowledge And Skill Requirements:
· Completion of a college diploma in a related field, or equivalent work experience in Distribution, Logistics and/or Customer Service;
· Positive leadership and project management skills;
· Experience with SAP is an asset:
· Excellent written & verbal skills;
· Knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook;
· Experience in an RF environment;
· Knowledge of International Shipments and HAZMAT requirements;
· Experience working/managing in a unionized environment;
Complexity & Judgement:
Regularly encounters problems in distribution which require judgment to identify alternative courses of action, but through prior exposure, experience, and established procedures/policies can determine the most appropriate course of action. Ability to work through difficult problems with Upper Management and/or other Departments.
Working Conditions:
When in the office, physical effort is minimal, as it may require occasional carrying and/or lifting of small objects and walking through the DC, shipping, and office areas. There is a considerable amount of sensory attention required. Stress is moderate to high and is created by the need to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
This is a working management position that requires performing all daily operational activities. These include, but are not limited to; receiving, stocking, cycle counts, picking, packing & loading. The position also performs all office activities; receivers, scheduling pick-ups and deliveries, bills of lading, filing, managing pertinent Infoflo reports, and completing daily/weekly/monthly reports for the Logistics Department
The incumbent understands, respects, and adheres to the workplace health and safety rules and regulations.
Supervisory Responsibility:
· Ensure that safe working conditions exist in those areas under their direct control and ensure workers perform their duties without undue risk;
· Take immediate action to correct any unsafe work conditions, methods, practices, procedures, or equipment faults or defects, as that may come to their attention;
· Ensure that all prospective employee candidates meet required physical, experience, and educational standards;
· Apply and participate in location Refusal to Work policy and procedure where and when necessary;
· Orient employees under their supervision to the safe operating practices and procedures to be followed, and ensure all new hires are assigned to work under appropriate supervision;
· Provide proper instruction, with emphasis on health, to all employees who may be exposed to potential health hazards;
· Ensure that training needs are identified for each employee and they receive on-going training for specific job tasks;
· Maintain valid First Aid Certification at all times;
· Communicate and ensure that personnel under their supervision understand task related risks and hazards;
· Implement and enforce (including training of employees) company work permit systems;
· Conduct general safety meetings with immediate staff in order to communicate safety information concerns, general work habits, policy and procedures, and promote safety consciousness on the job as per Group Communications standards;
· Investigate all situations believed to be dangerous by a worker or JHSC member.
Key Relationships:
Collaborates with peers in Sales, Finance, Engineering, Manufacturing and Demand & Supply Planning on a regular basis and speaks to the Sales and Operational Plan. Maintain strong working relationships with key raw material vendors.
Working Conditions:
Nearly always work indoors in a corporate office environment with long periods of sitting. Employee may experience progressive degrees of changing factors in the work process (changing work priorities, deadlines, accuracy, quotas, conflicting demands). Employee may be exposed to a minimal level of hazards in the work environment, such as moving machinery, powered industrial vehicle fork/reach/ bucket lift/other. Employee will be required to wear protective eyewear, hearing protection, safety shoes, and/or other.
