Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director of Strategic Sourcing is responsible for negotiating industry-leading agreements for a group purchasing organization (GPO) within the Food and Nutrition products and services sector. This role focuses on delivering and expanding significant financial value across various client-specific engagements. Key competencies include strategy development, negotiations, financial analysis, communication, planning, decision-making, project management, customer relations, and subject matter expertise in Food and Nutrition.
The Director provides updates and strategic advice to management and clients on assigned contracting projects while coordinating with internal teams, including operations, sales and marketing, legal, and finance departments. Responsibilities include developing and executing contract goals and fostering relationships with diverse stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, boards, and internal groups.
Responsibilities
- Independently plan and execute project timelines for assigned categories in the Food & Nutrition space with minimal oversight.
- Possess a strong understanding of Food & Nutrition products and services, with the ability to learn category-specific details and end-user interfaces.
- Expertise in master food distribution, including contracts, pricing structures, service elements, distribution processes, and direct manufacturer contracting.
- Develop contract strategies that align with customer needs and achieve organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with customer representatives (clinicians, executives, etc.) to align strategies, which must be approved by senior leadership.
- Account for complex considerations, adapting strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
- Oversee the sourcing process, including market research, RFI/RFP processes, contract negotiations, and launches.
- Present strategies and awards to advisory boards and executive-level supply chain boards, ensuring presentations are dynamic, clear, and engaging.
- Manage supplier relationships during the sourcing process, participating in business reviews and evaluating new products/technologies.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to address contracting concerns and resolve issues.
- Build strong customer relationships by consistently meeting or exceeding expectations.
- Assist the audit team with engagement and finalization of projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Business or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in contract negotiation and management, ideally within the Food and Nutrition space.
- Experience in strategic sourcing across a variety of categories preferred.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
